Hello! Thanks to all those who helped me in previous threads : ) I have been gone for a while, just busy with life. I am still finalizing my plans (months now...).
One of my last issues is with my sink. I have a 36" sink base and really need it to be directly on the corner. I am not using corner base cabinets. I only have three feet to the left of the sink base to work with, and I need that for a 24" dishwasher and a 12" pullout. The counter above this 3' will be a peninsula with chairs, so I don't want to put the 12" pullout to the left of the sink (less continuous counter space).
I was wondering - if I put the sink off center, towards the right of the 36" base, would that look awkward? Do you have any recommendations for a nice, single bowl stainless steel sink that would take up a lot of the cabinet 36", but not all of it? Did anyone else do anything similar? I would love to see some pictures!
I am not sure what you mean re placement of the sink -- is the sink cab going to be in the corner, at a 45 degree angle (i.e., in place of a corner cab) or is it just right next to the corner? Can you post an image of your layout?
Also, if you are doing a single bowl sink, are you sure you need a 36 inch cab rather than a 30 inch one? My sink is double bowl and rather large and still is only 33 inches wide (its bowls are 22 inches and 7 inches wide), so it needs the 36. If you want/need a really big single bowl sink, the 36 inch cab makes sense, but I think a fairly average size one would fit fine in a 30-inch cab.
Thanks yankeelawyer. I need a 36" cabinet because I cannot do the trash in a separate cabinet. I want to have a pullout underneath the sink, and I want to also store cleaning supplies, trash bags, extra bags, and maybe even recyclables. If I go to a 30" cabinet, I will have 6" to play with, but that's all (due to our desired passing space), and that's not enough for a cabinet. I thought I could use the 36" cabinet with a 30" (or so) sink placed more to the right of the cabinet. Do you think that would look okay, and would it give enough room to the left of the sink?
I am going to attempt to post a picture - mine are always too big and take forever to post.
Thanks again!
Jen
ps the sink isn't pictured in the cabinet on the drawing, but you can tell which one it is, and the red you will see is filler so I don't forget it's there : )
Yes, I think you can put the sink off center. And you can use that otherwise wasted corner space with a cabinet facing the rest of the room (dining space?). That's what we did and it's very useful. With an overhanging bar, you can't do an upper drawer on that side, but you could do lower drawers and an open shelf on top, or just a regular door cab, possibly with some inner drawers
Remember also that you'll need an inch or two of clearance on both sides of the inner corner, not just one side.
