Linjar Blue or Abstrakt White for Mid-Century Modern?
Hi. We are planning our kitchen remodel. Our house is a mid-century modern home. We are trying to play up the glory of this style of home. Our furnishings are all vintage, retro, or new but in a more classic modern style, rather than space-age modern style. We are choosing between Linjar Blue and Abstrakt White. Each of us is more in favor of one particular style and we can't seem to come to a consusus. We are trying to respect the original era of the home, while considering what we will like long-term (at least 10 years hopefully). What do you think?
Re: Linjar Blue or Abstrakt White for Mid-Century Modern?
I love Linjar Blue, but it is being discontinued and is already on sale in most stores. So if you're going that route, better hurry. On the other hand, the lack of selection could simplify your decision. Good luck!
Re: Linjar Blue or Abstrakt White for Mid-Century Modern?
the fact that Linjar Blue is discontinued is what has caused us to at least decide what we are doing. if we decide no Linjar, than further decisions can wait. I love Linjar Blue too. Do you think it's too space-age looking/will look dated?
Re: Linjar Blue or Abstrakt White for Mid-Century Modern?
I was really interested in doing Linjar Blue..... I live in a deco 1929 building in New York. My funiture is kind of mid century/atomic-ish...not over the top but that inspiration. Untll now most of the walls were apple green.
In the end, I decided to go with Nexus Yellow Brown. I think it's VERY mid-century modern. My partner talked me out of Linjar and pointed out it coud end up looking dated in his opinion. Moreover, we saw some of it in the store and it didn't look like it was holidng up well (not that that is a perfect analogy).
if you love it, go for it.... but I think you shoudl consider Nexus YB. Abstrakt white is defnitely a safe bet, too, and would depend on how you accessorize it to make it mid-century.
Re: Linjar Blue or Abstrakt White for Mid-Century Modern?
There is also the simple slab look of Applad, soon to come in black and accent doors in orange and yellow! To me the blue doesn't look right for the period, but I really don't like it so I freely admit I may be biased
Re: Linjar Blue or Abstrakt White for Mid-Century Modern?
I agree with NBeth re the Linjar; it does not say mid-century to me at all.
I also think Nexus Yellow Brown, particularly with white counters, is a good choice for that look.
You might google for some sites re interior design of Eichler homes for inspiration. In particular, there is one architect that posts on ikeahackers who specializes in remodeling these mid-century style homes using hacked IKEA products. If I can find the link to his site, I will post it. He has done some amazing IKEA kitchens.
As b/w Linjar and the abstrakt white, I personally would definitely go with the latter. I think it is less likely to look dated and it would be more likely to appeal to more people, if that is a consideration to you. With the Linjar, a bit like the Abstrakt red, you either love it or hate it (I happen to love a lot of the red kitchens but wouldn't want to commit to that longterm).
Re: Linjar Blue or Abstrakt White for Mid-Century Modern?
Wow, those websites are amazing! I can't wait to do a bit more investigating. I also like the Nexus YB, but because our house has a ton of wood paneling right now (and not the good kind), it is hard to imagine putting anymore back in. Of course, with the renovation, would come the removal of said paneling, so it's definitely something to look into. Thanks!
