Question Crown molding

Does Ikea have crown molding to match the kitchen cabinets? I am pretty sure we are going to go w /Adel MB, but would like crown molding at the top of ceiling. If not, do they sell the matching stain to have them made?
Thank you

Re: Crown molding

They do not have fancy crown molding...you can use the decor strip or toekick if you like. You could also use any crown you want and stain it. IKEA doesn't sell the stain, but you can certainly find a good match. Here is a thread on that topic.

Stain to match Adel Medium Brown

and make sure to scroll down to the bottom of that page and check out the "similar threads" linked.

Re: Crown molding

We just finished our crown on our AMB cabs this weekend and love it! Picked up crown molding at Home Depot and stained it with one coat of Minwax gel stain in mahogany, applied with a rag, and topped with a satin fast drying polyurethane also by Minwax. The molding has a different grain than the cabinets, but the color is pretty darn close. Perfect in most lights, but seems a touch off of the pictures with the flash my husband just took. I've never posted picts on this site before, so let's hope this works!

Re: Crown molding

i don't know if you checked out the thread that eva linked, but there are a lot of different "recipes" people have used.

i would highly recommend Minwax Ipswitch Pine either on its own or in combination with Mahogany (though i use Red Mahogany on some woods) since you're needing to get the brown and red tones with a bit of golden in there too....

Re: Crown molding

It can be a bit tricky.

A stain that matches perfect on one type of wood will look totally different on on another type.

Your best bet would be to take a door and a piece of the crown molding you are using into a Sherwin Williams store if you have one nearby. They can match it perfectly.

Re: Crown molding

which is why i mentioned combination... i've matched the adel mb with several species utilizing combinations of the above two mentioned stains in different amounts. it's a case by case basis... and fwiw the stain can even take differently to the same species. (no duct tape required)

again, i'll reiterate going through the link that Eva posted (and the utilization of "similar threads") as many have been down the road before. getting it matched is a good idea, but it also isn't 100% (as nothing dealing with stain and wood is)

Re: Crown molding

I've attached a couple of photos that were originally posted by another IKEAfan. They stacked the deco strip to make their own "moulding." We had originally planned to do this, but then decided we like the simplicity of just using one piece of deco strip at the top.

thank you so much! I looked at the pics you posted how someone stacked the deco strip & also your kitchen w /the one strip and like them both very much! I will go with something like that. I guess I was thinking that Ikea did not have any molding to finish off the cabinets. I don't know why I thought that!!
Thank you!!!

your kitchen is so nice
