Getting a High Cabinet to Fit

I will be installing Adel Medium Brown cabinets in my kitchen. The ceiling is 90.5". Next to it will be other base and wall cabinets. I will also be using the plinth and the adjustable legs at the bottom and a deco strip at the top. Here are my two options with their own problems. Any recommendation would be greatly appreciated.

Option 1: Starting from the top with 3/4" thick deco strip + 88" Cabinet = 88.75". This will leave me only with 1.75" for the plinth and adjustable legs. I know the legs are adjusted between 3 7/8" and 5 1/4". I can build a 1.75" high base on my own and cut the plinth, but it will not match the plinth on the base cabinet right next to it. How would that look?

Option 2: Starting from the bottom with 4.25" plinth (and legs) + 80" cabinet = 84.25". This will leave 6.25" at the top. And again, the top of the high cabinet will not match the top wall cabinet. I don't want to bring the wall cabinets down because they sit low already.

No experience with this myself, but there's a picture on this thread where stacylu built a custom (shorter) base and covered it with a cut down version of the toekick.

It's even Adel Medium Brown... so that ought to give you an idea of how Option 1 would look.

Re: Getting a High Cabinet to Fit

Go with option 1! You get more storage and nobody has EVER noticed the difference in our plinth. Plinth is one of those things that you only notice when it's missing
Good luck!

#1 We had this problem when we used high cabinets to make a china cabinet of sorts. it was in an alcove and if installed on the legs the doors wouldn't open due to an overhang of the alcove. we ended up slapping a piece of plywood underneath the cabinets. it raised them just enough so the doors wouldn't scratch the floor, but there wasn't a noticeable space between the floor and the cabinet.

#2 I don't understand why the top of the wall cabinet won't line up with the top of the high cabinet? perhaps i don't understand your measurements. we have a 88" high cabinet, and 39" wall cabinets and the tops line up perfectly (but we have a 96" ceiling). we installed the base cabinets and the high cabinet first, and then installed the wall cabinet that was to go next to it, so we could make sure it was all level. but that wall cabinet was hung at the exact same height as my other ones. i might not understand what cabinets your hanging either.

My vote would be to make the 88" work. maybe a couple pieces of cover panel would raise it up, and it would look interesting if it was set back from each edge of the cabinet. i mean we're talking 2" here, which is why it's so frustrating hey? i think a minimal board like plywood that you can't see would be best, probably leave you 1" from the ceiling, could you lower your wall cabinets that much? maybe do something up top to fill that 1" above the high cabinet? i'm babbling. too much info, i can't keep it straight. hope it helped though.

Re: Getting a High Cabinet to Fit

Thank you all for the great advice and links. It seems 88" is the best solution.
