My poor little kitchen is blasted apart, down to the joists, with differing plywood on the floor, bits of drywall, one window out, the new wiring drifting in the breeze... picture it and tell me it will all work out. Yeah, the cabinets are assembled and ready to go up. I've heard this can go on for a month with non pros like us. Seeing the finished kitchens on this site cheers me up. Thankfully my son in law can do electrical and plumbing and drywall. poor guy. see you all in the forums. Cathy from Vancouver Island.
I found the cabinets were the easiest part. the demo was the most work, and the finicky things that come up as you go along. but putting the cabinet frames together and hanging/attaching them was the least complicated and time consuming.
I haven't done an Ikea kitchen (about to do an Ikea workroom), but I've redone two kitchens in older (1917-1921) houses. It's a lot of work and a lot of weird quirky things come up, but it's SO worth it to get a kitchen that you love!

It will all work out. It will be SO WORTH IT in the end!
I've got an old house too, and it can be very hard to get things done. but they DO get done. Have faith, and keep plugging away. It gets completed by inches at times, but every inch counts!
I'm with Mad, we want to see pics! Don't feel any shame, we have none here. Somebody's kitchen loked just like yours, or even worse, at some point.
My husband and I just bought a house built in 1900, and are in the planning stages of the kitchen. I know exactly how you feel, although I'm sure as we start the demo it'll get worse. Everytime we uncover some shoddy repair done in the past my stomach sinks a little. I take solace in the idea that at some point there must be some upwards trajectory. Keeping my final goal in mind keeps me going. I hate the kitchen as it is now
