Akurum Legs Questions

So, you've got 4 legs rated to hold 1100lbs together.

Now, I will say that those legs are tricky. They like to fall off when you move the cabinets, so you can screw them or gorilla glue them on (no hole for it, but do it anyway). They are not meant to be twisted or placed under torque in any way- they are very strong for bearing loads, but twist them (say when you're sliding things around and just want to shove this cabinet in bit over here...) and you could break one.

It's kind of like human knees. I can run and run and run on mine, but god forbid I should pivot in the cosmetics area at Macy's.

for the dw i would recommend not only something in the 3/4" line (like the oven panel) but also my favorite thing in the world: a cleat! i cleat more than i need to cause i am a fan of extra support, specially when living in earthquake country

So Dulci, are you recommending a cleat at the back of the run to hold the countertop weight, or a cleat on the end of the run where the DW is? I've decided to get very knowledgeable about end run dishwasher installs

The exploding leg is in jenswrens's non-ikea farmhouse sink mod thread:

but AFAIK that is the only known instance of this happening, and given that, I think it may just as well have been a manufacturing defect in that one leg--no company ever has had 0 problems with quality control, for all that Ikea does pretty well with their kitchen stuff.

Harpy- thank you! I don't believe I caught that the first time around.

You're right, not every leg is perfect- the good news is that if there's concern, you don't need a custom cabinet, you just need to add the wood support that Jenswren did. She did a very nice job explaining how to do it.

McGuyver points out to me that we pretty much have the same thing in our kitchen- instead of a dw, we have freezer drawers and the granite is held up over that 27" by coverpanel in the back, not on the end. He also reminds me that we had a "discussion" about why he was not creating a box around the freezer drawers which is what I was strenuously demanding. Even though he completely dissed me over the box, he does come in handy as a therapist.

I apologize that my repressed memories are seeping out into IKEAFANS.
