I need help w/two things....

1)Island is 54 inches long...What are my options for the back part of the island for panel???????

2 ) In the island in the 24 inch wall cab we were going to do the microwave. (That is what an Ikea planner suggested .....well.......
there is a drawer on the bottom then a spot for the micro.....but now I have the exposed birch cab box showing and it looks funny. Any ideas on what I can do? Do you even know what I mean? It is like not putting the door on and then putting the microwave in that spot. I guess when he showed me, I thought it would be a panel or something kind of like the oven. I have Adel MB

Suzan, you are in luck! ALL of these things are very easy to handle!!

You use...island cover panel! It's made in all door styles to match your cabinets. My island is 76" and the back is covered in this panel. You can see it in my photos listed under my avatar. Other people have used actual doors (including Demicent, who also has an Adel Medium Brown kitchen- check out her blog- it's a great look).

For the space around your microwave, you have lots of choices. Some microwaves come with trim kits that will let you conver things up with matching plastic or metal for just this circumstance. Alternatively, you can use filler- which is just cabinet material covered in your door style's veneer and you nail/glue it in place. You can also, if it is a small space, use iron on veneer strips. I'm guessing this is a job for FILLER!
