Need help: Please review my kitchen

Hi Team,

After 3 weeks of planning, re-planning, and re-re-planning, I'm about to take the plunge and order my IKEA cabinets. Can the sages of IKEAFANS.com please look at my plan to make sure that I'm not going to be kicking myself in a week?

I know that the "dead" corner space could be filled with a cabinet, but my handy boyfriend is planning to open up that wall from the other side (which is the dining room) in order to do built in shelves there. For now, we're going to put a few two-by-fours in there to hold up the counter.

I'm terrified that I'm going to screw this up and flush $1,000+ down the toilet. Any advice or reassurance you can offer would be much appreciated.

THANK YOU!

- Ilana

Could you post some images? The kitchen planner program allows you to print a 3D image by saving it in bmp format rather than fpf. It works better if you change the file name a bit (the program really prefers fpf). Make sure you check which file it's being saved to. Once the bmp's been saved, open it up (the ancient Paint program works very well) and save it as a jpg image.

This procedure isn't quite as awkward as it sounds. Most of the work is in creating the 3d images using Kitchen Planner.

Re: Need help: Please review my kitchen

Hi, If I were you I'd try to use large cabinets and also drawers as much as possible. Since you're going to do some construction/demolition anyway, can you reposition either window at all? I'm posting a plan with the assumption that the stove wall is the interior wall and that you'd be willing to close up the window enough to slide the stove down a little. If the other wall is your inside window let me know and I'll play around with that assumption. I also assumed that the sink is movable since your d/w is where it is. Anyway, I tried to give you as much storage as possible and to get the stove away from the wall. These are just some ideas for you to play with.....

This image shows the limits the windows cause. I used a corner cabinet in the corner, but suspect it may not be as useful as a drawer cabinet.

Re: Need help: Please review my kitchen

Thanks, team! I love this website (almost as much as I love IKEA)!

I tinkered with the design some more and after a couple of changes came up with my final plan. I bought the cabinets last Friday just before the store closed and finally achieved my long-time goal of being the very last customer to leave the store.

I'm sure I'll be back with more questions when they arrive and I'm sitting amidst 101 pieces!
