Wall the fridge is up against is a load wall going up to a 12' vault. Currently there's a capped wall where the big opening is, I plan on removing most if not all of it, although if possible it'd be nice to have a serving bar/workspace since the dining room is on that side.
The planner does some really wierd stuff (note the floating cabinet next to the stove).
Sink is below the window next to the dishwasher. I'm pretty happy with that run of cabinets there, although I'm sure it could be better. Plenty of workspace. All the cooking things can go by the stove, all the dish/silverware/linens storage can go by the dishwasher. I'm just not sure how to maximize the fridge/storage area. Peninsula or that portable island ? Also note the refrigerator would likely be a standalone that's a 33" depth.
To the east is the dining room. The wall there is pretty meaningless.
To the west of the refigerator is the stairs down (trilevel) Through the doorway is the living room and the stairs up. The wall is load bearing but I can cut a bigger hole for the doorway.
Resurrecting this thread. I'm about ready to really redo the kitchen. I ran into this cool idea of a "double L" I hadn't seen before. Here's a shot at a double L (and the program has its limitations still).
I have misgivings about that double L. Kinda cool but lots of corners (less efficient) and ends to bump into (but then, I'm the kind of person who will bump into things if they are there to be bumped!)
The kitchen is square 11'6"x11'6" and it's hard to use efficiently that way.
This current design has about 48" clearance between the sink/dishwasher and the cooktop, and about 42" clearance between the front of the refrigerator and the cooktop countertop
I saw somewhere that behind a cooktop must be 9" if there's not back stop, with most cooktops that means 29" minumum for counter. With countertop overhanging 5" that makes fridge to cabinet clearance of ~48".
My current biggest problem with this layout is that the fridge is right next to the builtin oven. a *reasonable* solution would be to put the oven below the cooktop (and convert the wall oven into a full pantry). I didn't see anything from ikea allowing oven below cooktop.
Also I would *love* to be able to add another door to the back of the corner cabinet next to the cooktop to allow that space to be more efficiently accessed. Not sure ikea allows for that.
