Has anyone ever tried to put a toaster oven inside the opening of a 30" wide tall oven cabinet? I know it is easy to put a microwave in there (and it looks good with a 30" microwave stainless trim kit around the 24 inch wide stainless microwave, picture attached), but what about a 19" wide stainless countertop oven (such as the Kitchenaid KCO1005OB)? Would it be possible to center this within the same 30" trim kit and have it look good? The countertop oven requires 4" of free space behind/above/and to the sides for ventilation. Any ideas? An alternate suggestion would be welcome as well. Thanks.
I can't imagine that a toaster oven wouldn't be as well insulated as a built-in oven, which has no sides on it all. And that is how a built-in oven is normally installed.
Have you ever used a toaster oven? I have. And I have noticed that they give off a LOT of heat, especially through the top. They are nowhere NEAR as well insulated as a built in oven. In fact, I doubt there is much "insulation" at all.
AFAIK, there is only one that is supposed to be installed under a wall cabinet, and that is the Black and Decker Spacemaker toaster oven. It also has a history of recalls due to fires it starts by being too close to the cabinetry and I believe B&D was fined because of this issue as well.
If the countertop oven in question requires 4" clearance on all sides then it obviously is not designed as a built-in oven...without a proper trim kit it should not be installed in a cabinet if the front is blocked off with a panel.
This is similar to microwaves installed in base cabinets...only with proper trim kits, never panelled in.
for the record (and why ARE we answering 2 yr old posts? i know kitchen installs can take time, but really?) toaster ovens aren't even allowed to be installed under cabinet anymore (space maker isn't even sold anymore) due to the fires and recalls Eva mentioned.
Not beating a dead horse, just really want any lurkers or members to be aware that this application should NOT be attempted. Fire damage due to installing a toaster oven in this fashion would not even be covered by your insurance since it is not within the manufacturers recommended installation guidelines; your policy would be void. That should really be the last word, even though i'm not the diva
