So for now, I've decided to pursue the idea of having doors made for my ikea cabinets. Anyone know where I can find the exact measurement of each doors online?
I'm expecting that I will have to haul my butt over to ikea and measure them all myself to double/triple check accuracy anyway...

Does anyone have pics of cabinets with custom doors?
...I'm so curious.

Any suggestions to what colour cabinet to install?
I will put in brown/black doors now- and may install white doors in 5 years or so.

White cabinets or wood veneer?

Thanks

If you think you might install white doors in the future, I'd stick with white boxes. You can always apply some brown/black veneer to the white boxes, then remove it and replace with white later -- there are some threads around here about this. Do a search on "edge banding" or "Goffgirl" <--search on user name for her thread.

Also, take a look on the Fansite side (click on home in the upper right of your screen, then navigate to Before and Afters) for Jill_77's Akurum /Custom kitchen. She had custom walnut doors made and it turned out FABULOUSLY!!!

Liz_H is planning to do custom doors, but I don't believe she's begun yet, and I think there's at least one, maybe more other people looking into it. Maybe you all can use this thread as a place to discuss the ins and outs of using custom doors. Good Luck!

Oh, and...Welcome to the Forums!

Thanks for the welcome! This has been a very informative site and I know it will save my sanity in the near future.

I've seen Jill77's kitchen and love it!
I'm planning to do an ebony walnut door as well but with "Adel" style trim around the door (going for a modern/colonial look if that's possible-
and I'm planning to install grey limestone floor in kitchen and traditional carrera for counters)

It's funny...the new nexus blk/brown is so close but just not right for me. I found another door in the office dept of ikea- black/brown with the adel trim, but of course, it's not make for kitchen cabinets
ouch.

I can't seem to find Jill77 ???

Jill...are you out there???

Hmmm...
Has anyone had any success with painting doors? ...

Thanks Susan, I will try staining Adel Medium....and the tidaholm (since I already have an "as is" door) I'm guessing the doors would need to be sanded first?
While I'm at it, I'll darken my "as is" liljestad door too! Too light for me.

I'll look for threads and experiment with paints.

I know that Dtlyme has painted Fagerland a really neat sage-like color.

Nutella -- I'd think a light sanding couldn't hurt. And yes, I'd forgotten about dtlyme's doors -- they look great! Try the gel stain I mentioned in PM .

Is your name Ro also? So's (wait for it...) Fisheggs'.

AND I like nutella. Have a jar in my office and have a terrible time not sneaking spoonfulls throughout the day. Probably better than a trip to the vending machine, though. Are you a Rowena or a different type of Ro?

I'm legally Rosanna, but most know me as Rosanne, and lately find myself answering to "Ro"
