What do I put around my 48" range hood duct work??

FINALLY chose a range hood to go over my humongous (Blue Star) 48" range - a Broan pro-style Rangemaster 6000 series. I've put a picture of the hood (which I found on gardenweb in the finished kitchen's blog!) below
Here's the problem:
I'm venting the hood through the ceiling, so something has to hide the ductwork. Normally, I would put a cabinet around the ductwork. But, since the hood is 48" wide, there aren't any 48" wide cabinets that I've been able to find! And, I need something that is 12" high...
Here's how I'm measuring. The hood part is 18" high. I'm going to mount it 27" off the stove. That means that, with the stove 36" off the ground + 27" of empty space + 18" of chimney, and I want the top to line up with the top of the rest of the cabinets which end 93" off the ground.
What do I put around the ducts? Ideas??? What have you all done? BTW the chimney duct work is 12" deep.
My first thought would be to just use a cut cover panel to, well...cover it up. Another option would be to take 2 24" cabinets, gang them together and to the sections adjacent, then cut out what you need to to allow the vent to go through. Would that even work? Don't know without seeing the "guts" of it.
I'm going to stick with cover panel. You'll have to get one of the big boys for this...one of the high cabinet cover panels. That would be either Tidaholm or Ulriksdal (I love the new feature whereby I can see your doorstyle in all your posts!)-- hmmm....you may have visible grain. I can't think of any cover panels that are going to be 48" wide with the grain going vertically to match the cabinetry.
Stainless sheeting to match the hood? Obviously, I'm typing out loud here....:?

Aren't some of the drawer fronts about 12" high? I'll go look for the post. 2 15" around a central 18" or just 3 15" might look nice. The rule of 3's and 5's, right? You could add trim around the edges to make up any difference and it might look nice.
Probably would have to build a frame with 2x4's around the ductwork. Ooh, you could even hinge one of them or make it semi-removable so that you could make any needed repairs (heaven forebid) down the line.
Or you could just mount two 12x24 doors to the outside of the adjacent cabinets and rig a way for them to stay shut. There's a new 24" wide fridge cabinet, I think, with a single door.
Or you could build a chase for it and tile it to match your backsplash. Or just tile all the way up the wall and let the chimney show.
This is a cool idea. So, I'd just buy 2 12" high x 24" wide door fronts (can one just buy door fronts? how??) and build out some kind of rig so that the 12" deep duct comes out far enough so that these doors are at the same level as the doors on the next door cabinets, then it would look just like a 48" wide cabinet!! Is that right?
Which is the cabinet you're thinking of that has these 24" doors? Is it under fridge.
There is a 24 wide by 18 high door on a wall cabinet (W2418). I don't know about the Tidaholm, but you could possibly cut down a bit on top and bottom to make it work. And yes, you can just order the door, you just need to get the part number and they will place the order in Kitchens.
You could also use a wall cabinet cover panel that's 42" wide and you could trim with decor strip or a wide flat molding to make it work.
You just can. IKEA's Akurum/Faktum (essentially the same thing, but different names in North America/Europe) lines are sold (for the most part) modularly. There are a few exceptions...like the corner cabinets come with the hinges, as do the horizontal lift cabinets. The 12" and 15" base pull out units come packaged as the 3 drawers together. But most everything else is sold piece by piece.
Alot of people don't know that, because most IKEAs have "codes" that they use so that when you say you want a 12" base pullout, they type in their "code" and you get a 12"x30" door, a pack of legs, a 12" base cabinet and the set of drawers for the pull-out unit. Plus a faulty template (if you're reading this and struggling with the template for the 12" base pull-out, it's not you. It's faulty. Check this thread for measurements: http://www.ikeafans.com/forums/view_topic.php?id=2382&forum_id=14)
But I don't think there's a 12"x24" door. I could be wrong.
