screwing things into the cabinets

On our current house we have screwed a few things into the bottom of the upper cabinets. We have a few hooks, some lights, and a magnet, also soon a small wine holder (from Ikea).
Anyways, will the Ikea cabinets be able to hold those things?
Thanks,

--Carlos

Re: screwing things into the cabinets

There should be no problem with the cabinet holding those things...they're very sturdy. Make sure you are using the proper size and type of screws to attach these things, though.

Re: screwing things into the cabinets

You know those double-headed bolts that are used to hold adjacent cabinets together? If your total hanging load exceeds maybe eight-ten pounds from any single screw (divide total load by total number of screws but small screws hold less and bigger screws don't bite as well into the particle board) you might want to use one of these and go all the way through the cabinet.

Thanks for the info. I was actually not worried about the load but more about the material I would be screwing into.

That's clearly a question about the load bearing capacity. So what you are now saying you meant was, "What's the stuff these cabinets are made out of?" Answer: rough particle board with a paper thin veneer.

Good point. In reality yes I am worried about the load but mostly because of what material the bottom of the wall cabinets is made of. The crappiest particle board will work a hook screwed into it but will it hold whatever you hang on that hook and for how long?
Anyways, thanks, I think I've gotten most of my answers.
