As I'm planning a kitchen for my Mom in the US and I'm a Mac and SketchUp user, I got frustrated that the models available are approximate in size, 1/8" per cabinet can add up to a fair bit in a long run. The Faktum cabinets here in Europe are all 2 mm smaller than their stated size as well.

So I took a little time and made new SketchUp models of all of the available Akurum (North American) cabinet frames with precise measurements, as published by Ikea but often checked against the sleuthing and measurements of you Ikeafans in many useful messages.

They are all available in this Akurum collection on Google's 3D Warehouse.

I hope you all find them useful. And please let me know of any errors you might come across and I'll update the models. In particular, is the tall pantry cabinet really exactly 30.0" wide? All the other cabinets are 1/8" below their stated width, except for the horizontal cabinets which are 1/4" wider, so it's odd to find one that is spot on.

Wow! That's AWESOME! I just blogged about 3D IKEA models from Polantis.com. They will eventually have 945 models. I'm going to update that post though, with a mention of this, if you don't mind. This is just sooooo cool! It's 3D model day!

Albert thank you so much for sharing these models! I'd made an outdated set for another manuf. to approximate models but having the real thing will be so much nicer to really see what's going on in the designs I do. And a more realistic representation for a quick mockup to show clients.

And for all the rest of the world, here is the Ikea Faktum SketchUp model collection.

It's what I used to plan my Abstrakt white with oak trim kitchen, which is being installed in February - so I'll get a real-life check on the dimensions of the models. A Podium render of the SketchUp model is attached - a number of people in Ikea who saw me with my laptop model asked me what software I was using.

Having done the models for all of the cabinets I'll note that the North American Akurum line actually has more choice in general in terms of cabinet sizes than the rest-of-the-world Faktum line. Here in Europe nearly all appliances are 60 cm (about 24") wide so all the specialized cabinets are 60 cm wide, but North American appliances come in a multitude of widths, forcing more variety in the cabinets. Plus all of your cabinets are taller and deeper, and so hold more inside. So think of that the next time you bemoan a Europe-only feature like toe kick drawers for sale at Ikea with no modifications...

Good to know, Albert! There are times the size limitations are frustrating, but with the Akurum lines you can sort of mix & match to get the whole range of 3" increments. A little more work, but sometimes what it takes.

I've been watching to see if appliances like refrigerators will start shrinking here in the US. There are some that have come out, & I'm curious to see if the green movement will have any affect on whether smaller gets adopted more often over here.

This looks great. I do not want to run Windows on my Mac just for the kitchen planner so I plan to learn Sketchup.

Are you planning to also do doors and drawer fronts for Akurum ? In the meantime is it difficult to use the ones from the Faktum collection (they'd need to be resized a bit)?
