I am working on redoing our kitchen and have taken a first run at the layout. It is a small kitchen and I think the existing layout may be the best just do to the space. The new design shows the dishwasher to the right of the sink (it is currently to the left of the sink. I moved it because I thought it would be better to take advantage of using a corner base cabinet. I would welcome any and all suggestions/advice.
Doorstyle: NEXUS biased, but will install all! Also customs :)
Re: Galley Kitchen Plan Review
Good job on dealing with all those doors!
Couple of thoughts, see attached version
w
/ changes:
Sliding the sink base down to touch the corner cabinet would free up some wiggle room around the fridge, both at the corner wall and between it & the dishwasher.
The 3 drawer base cab't adjacent to the corner cabinet is probably too tight to the door. Going to an 18" wide instead of a 24" would be better clearance.
The #9 wall cabinet is going to be tough to reach, so I dropped a corner wall cabt in to match the base under it.
I added #1 & #8 to run that side to the corner, and slide #6 & #13 down to clear that door frame.
Aesthetically, it may look weird to have that tall of a cabt over the fridge. I normally put a 15" cab't over fridges & line up the head height with the other cab'ts in the room.
What's on the other sides of all the doors? I ask because it may be possible to get rid of one or open up a wall into an adjacent room.
Corner cabinets are the bane of a kitchen designer's existence! Although there are lots of hardware doodads these days that make them decent storage.
W definition
W is a wall cabinet designation, as in W18, can be a stand-in for Wide, or when followed by a / stands for With.
Thanks for the suggestions. Its always good to have a fresh set of eyes on something. I really like the idea of a wall corner cabinet, but I don't have room on the "window" wall to install one. The window size was not accurately represented in my initial plan. I have revised the plan now with more accurate measurements and a few adjustments. Do you all think I should go with a high cabinet in the corner on the range side or should I just install a base cabinet and wall cabinet to gain some additional counter top space? Thanks
Oh, and the doors are probably staying where they are. One is going into a pantry (on the range wall), one into the dining room, and the other into a breakfast room/hallway. I just don't think with my budget I would be able to rearrange the doors. And also, I'm trying to do the work myself and that might be a little beyond my capabilities.
You mention that one of the doors lead to a separate pantry. What would you be using the high cabinet on the range side for? If not a pantry or something that you find a must to store there, I would vote for the additional countertop space. Otherwise, it's OK to have it in the plan.
