Smile Help with Final Kitchen Design!

Hello,

First off, Thank You all for the help I have received just by reading countless posts on this website. Your posts have helped me narrow down my kitchen choices and finally settle on Ikea and more specifically the ADEL BIRCH fronts.

I have been using the planner for a couple of days and I finally have a design that sorta works. Hopefully you guys can help me Iron out all the kinks.

Here are the issues with my design/kitchen:

1. Dead Corner Space on Wall Cabinets

2. Almost impossible to Center the Sink Cabinets/Sink/Window.

3. Small Kitchen Sink Cabinet

Currently, my kitchen has cabinets that extend right into the corners leaving no dead space at all. The Sink cabinet In my current kitchen is 42".Currently Both Base and Wall corner cabinets have shelves that go right into the corner. The wall cabinet has a 2 doors and the visible portion is 32" wide while the bottom has 1 door and the visible portion is 21" wide.

I would like my Ikea kitchen to have the same sort of functionality but I have been having a very hard time with the corners and trying to line up the sink to the window. The design I made on the planner leaves me with a 24" sink cabinet and dead corner space on the wall corner.

I know thats lots of info, but i figured it wouldn't hurt!

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank You.

Judy

Re: Help with Final Kitchen Design!

A sink that fits a 24" cabinet but has a drainboard extending over the dishwasher can work effectively. BTW , do you want to keep the existing sink?

Your plan looks terrific. Maybe someone else will find a touchup or two.

Re: Help with Final Kitchen Design!

Hey guys! Thanks for the quick responses.

To answer your questions. I would like to buy a new sink, but something a little bigger then 24".

Thanks for the suggestion for the wall corner. I was hoping it was possible to shove a 15" cabinet in the dead space up top and connect it to the adjacent cabinetry. Sorta like making it one cabinet if you follow me.

As for the base cabinet corner, If I could find a way to maybe fit a 30" sink cabinet and still line it up with the window that would be perfect.

I appreciate the help guys!

Re: Help with Final Kitchen Design!

A 30" sink cabinet can be centered by foregoing maybe 8" of base cabinet, substituting a filler panel. And using a 49" corner cabinet.

Some sinks with their own drainboards will look centered even if they aren't. Maybe Blanco America (Blancoaxis sink) would be a high-priced example.

Re: Help with Final Kitchen Design!

Thanks Again!

Well, I tried to fit in the 30" sink cabinets...but it then fudges up the fitment of the side with the oven and fridge.

Any ideas?

Re: Help with Final Kitchen Design!

How about using the single domsjo farm sink? It's 24 huge inches: that thing feels seriously large and it's beautiful to boot.

You can create a blind corner in the wall cabs but the planner will balk so it takes some finessing. Ikea parts come separately, so you just order one door rather than two, etc..

Re: Help with Final Kitchen Design!

Thanks for the help!

I'll definetly check out the Domsjo sink next time I visit the store. From the pics it looks interesting.

What exactly is a blind corner?

Re: Help with Final Kitchen Design!

A blind corner is where you use two regular cabinets (usually wall cabinets) to fit a corner. One will be partly covered by the other.

The Domsjo sink is attractive. I would've carted one home from the As-Is room (or Tal Como Son here in Florida), had I not already bought a dented Blanco at an affordable price.
