Discuss Loose Center Panels??!! on IKEAFANS.com. We're Personalizing the IKEA Experience. Loose Center Panels??!! - Need help with planning your remodel? Want a kitchen planner to review your ideas? This is the happenin' spot!.
Help! I just went and bought a fagerland door to help me shop for flooring, etc. I noticed that the center panel is loose and kind of wiggles back and forth in the frame. Is this normal? It tooks copious quantities of convincing to try to get my
DH
to consider Ikea. And now my heart is set. I don't want to be back at square one. Please tell me what is the deal??
DH definition
DH usually means Dear Husband (or, pick your own adjective starting with D).
I've got fagerland in my bathroom - 4 cabinets - 8 doors - I just checked all of the doors and mine don't wiggle. Is it a very slight wiggle - or more pronounced ??

Well, it's awfully hard to quantify. When I pick the door up, I notice that the center panel will move. It just seems to be back and forth, not side to side. I guess I would call it pronounced. I know that it's enough that if this is normal, I very well may not buy Ikea. Except I don't know what else I would do...

I'm unfamiliar with that design, but if the floating panel is real wood, that may be normal. The panel needs to float in the frame to account for wood movement, the expansion and compression of the wood due to moisture content in the air. If your house is very dry you might expect it to contract a bit. You might just wait for a humid stretch of days and see if the fit is tight once again.
If the panel were tight in the frame and then it sucked in some moisture from the air, it would split the panel or break the frame. That's the nature of floating panel construction.
But once again, that only applies if the panel is solid wood. If it is veneered MDF or some other material then expansion should not be an issue and I'd take it back to Ikea and have them see if you got a lemon.
NewarkBirdGuy (Andy) - thanks... that's very helpful! Fagerland is a wooden door (made of pine). I see you're new here ... welcome to IKEAFans!!

Hey Bill - she's got a Fagerland door - not a Lindingo door.
I mentioned this in another post but will mention it again here ... please turn your caps lock off. Writing in all caps on the internet is the equivalent of yelling.
Thanks!

Well, Andy seems to be correct. After riding my car for a few days while I took it to flooring stores with me, the panel is now snug. <sigh> I was really worried. They're hanging drywall today, so I'm getting very close to my kitchen, and I've told all the other kitchen sales people that I've talked to that I'm going with Ikea. I was not looking forward to telling them it wasn't going to work. Thank you guys so much for allaying my fears (once again )!
whew... so glad to see that!!!! I know how awful it would be to think you've got things nailed down and then have to switch to something else and reopen all those decisions. I know you'll love your Fagerland kitchen!!
