My plan is shaping up, but I have a concern regarding measuring properly to make sure everything fits! In the planner, I find it difficult to tell how big gaps will be, or if I've left enough space beside and between things, etc. The edge of the room only shows 1-2 foot increments. For example, I have a wall cab on both sides of my sink window, but now that I look closely, it seems I've left a larger space than I meant to there, so my run of cabinets might not line up like I'd want with the lowers.

Is there a tool for adding together all the widths of the cabs to see what the total in a run will be? I guess I'm looking for info on the installed width of cabinets.

The measuring part scares me because I envision coming to the end of a wall and not being able to fit the cabinet in or something! Yikes!

My very low-tech solution to this was to draw it all on graph paper. I did it multiple times, and at one point realized I had completely mis-measured one wall. The cabinets as installed are pretty much the measurement stated, but you also have to plan for possible filler in corners and such, and include the thickness of the cover panels if you're using those.

As a way to be safe, I always suggest to leave at least a couple of inches when planning to fit cabinets between two walls (for example); like if you have 96" from wall to wall, then plan on adding up your cabinets and cover panels to 94" max.

It's a lot easier to add filler than try to squeeze the cabinets and find out the hard way that they're 1/4" too much for the space. And remember to always measure at leasttwice, with help from somebody else to confirm the numbers.

I just taped out the cabinets on my floor. This was helpful for two reasons. First, I caught an incorrect measurement. Second, it really helped me see the layout and how it worked. So I was able to make some changes.
