Hi, That's pretty much the set up we have. Here's some pictures...

But is yours sitting on a shelf? can you give me the details on how you did that? I love how yours looks!

Here's mine as it was orginally drawn with the Ikea micro cab that won't work due to the 20 inch shelf (I guess unless I cut it down, but didn't think I could find a microwave to fit in there)

Yeah I would also like to know how you did that. My biggest concern going down the OTC route was my fear it wouldn't look right next to a full size cabinet wall cabinet next to it. But it looks like you nailed it.

Re: Microwave choice and placement: FRAMTID OTR vs GE Spacemaker 2 under cabinet

Glad you like it. Our microwave hangs under a 24" wide x 30" tall cabinet (attaches to the bottom of the cabinet with a bracket from GE). The cabinet next to it is 39" tall. We trimmed both sides of the 24" cabinet with deco strip to allow another piece of the deco strip (on its side) to be attached between them, under the microwave. If you don't use the pieces of trim on the side you'll have to figure some other way to attach the bottom piece if you want it. The deco strip under the 39" cabinet is attached with its wide side showing which makes the bottoms line up. It's pretty easy to do. We couldn't use the 24" wide microwave cabinet (with the shelf) because the inner opening is too narrow for this microwave. [By the way christiegavin, this particular microwave cannot be placed over a stove - it looks like that's what your plan wants?].

Re: Microwave choice and placement: FRAMTID OTR vs GE Spacemaker 2 under cabinet

Which cabinet is it? I'm kind of confused because I can't seem to find a cabinet that size in the planer. Also according to the specs the mircowave is 11 3/16" tall so 30" + 11" is 41" and taller then a 39" cabinet right?

I'm going to have a regular 39" cabinet on one side of mine and on the other i'm going to have the fridge with its cover panel so i'm wondering what cabinet to buy to hang the GE from so it looks built in.

Re: Microwave choice and placement: FRAMTID OTR vs GE Spacemaker 2 under cabinet

My m/ w is hung under a 24" wide x 30" tall cabinet. We put a single door on it since it's in a corner and that makes it easier to get into the cabinet - you'd use two 12" wide by 30" tall doors I assume. It is a regular, available size. The light rail (deco molding) that's under the adjacent 39" tall cabinet adds enough height to the 39" cabinet to make the bottoms line up. If you use a cover panel (or molding with the narrow side facing out) between your two cabinets you'll make the m/w look built in since it will be bracketed between that molding and the fridge cover panel. Does this answer your question?

Re: Microwave choice and placement: FRAMTID OTR vs GE Spacemaker 2 under cabinet

I'm also planning to hang the GE microwave under the cabinet while framing in the sides. 24" width will be perfect. My question is this: Will I be safe using a 12" deep cabinet above, while still pretty flush in the front. Did you need to allow additional room in the back for the plug? Do I have to go to a 15" depth cabinet?

I'll have to check when I get home, but my recollection is that the cord comes out the back, but there is not really room for an outlet and a plug directly behind the microwave. I ended up running it over to the left where it goes behind my refrigerator, but you could just as easily route it up into the cabinet above the microwave like an OTR microhood, or just let it hang down (eww).

I don't know if this is a possibility for you, but have you considered putting the microwave in a base cabinet? We just installed a Sharp Insight Microwave Drawer into a 24" base cabinet. It looks great, is VERY convenient and was easy to install.

I'll probably run the plug up into the cabinet above. The depth of the Spacemaker II PEM31SMSS is 12
9/32 (plus plug, I'll assume). With the plug (probably behind) since this one is a countertop model with the option to hang it at 24" wide, how are you able to have it flush with the 12" cabinet?
