What are options for large island countertop?
I have seen a few large islands- the width of two base cabinets, or about 48 inches wide, greater than 48 inches long. The numerar counters have a maximal width of 39 inches. Granite is an option but very pricey for this, and I suspect there is a premium for the very large pieces, Does anyone have suggestions for not-so-pricey island tops that can accomodate this width?

Hi scrappy- The most economical route without seams would be custom laminate. Other options include tile- which of course has lots of seams, but some countertop materials really don't show it, like soapstone with a dark grey grout. It looks fabulous.

If you were thinking about something like butcher block, there are a lot of other sources that offer larger sizes than Ikea does, although the price is usually a bit higher than it would have been from ikea.
