Is there any reason a dishwasher can not go next to a double bowl domsjo? The flare out wouldn't interfere with the dishwasher door, would it? Since you can put drawer units next to it, I wouldnt imagine there would be a problem, but I need to make up my mind about moving the dishwasher, and I'd hate to move it & discover a problem...
Well, you'd probably want to a cover panel (attached to the countertop and floor with L-Brackets) next to the sink base just for additional strength and support for the countertop. What will be on the other side of the dishwasher?
Susan - that's what they told me at IKEA .... You'd need a cover panel to support the
countertop and the domsjo ... I'm planning to have a cover panel on both sides of the sink as I want my sink to be centered in the window....

I'm going to have a 36" cabinet on the other side of the dishwasher... so it will be (left to right)
36" Base Cab + Dishwasher + Domsjo Sink & Cab
I do have one of the oven base panels, but I'm actually a little worried about the space - I'm measured out just about exactly, as I have a large beam that restricts how far to the left I can go... would I really need the base panel if the dishwasher is surrounded by 2 cabinets?
Right now the dishwasher is where the 36" cab would be, so right now its:
Dishwasher + 36" Open Space + Sink
I'm just sick of having the dishwasher a step or two from the sink... however, in this arrangement, if I run out of space I can cut the base panel a little short to sit in front of the beam (this would mean notching the countertop as well...)
Dave, the extra cover panel is more to give support to the sink rather than the counter. If it's at all possible to squeeze a cover panel in there, I would do it. If not...well, then don't fill your sink up with water and bathe the wife.
Ok, looking over the install docs, I get why it would be needed... I'll try my ****'dest to squeeze it in... just have to swing into the hw store & get some L brackets...
My
Dw
is right next to the Domsjo base, with a 30" drawer base on the other side. No cover panel to shore it up. I hope it doesn't fall down anytime soon!

Kathy -- I doubt it will fall down -- it's more of a cautionary thing. The side of the cabinet is extremely strong compression-wise, (MDF in general is VERY strong for compression, but extremely brittle -- this is why you see chipped corners and so forth from rough handling) which is what it will be subject to. If everything is well secured, you shouldn't have anything to worry about.
Besides, you have that loverly tub in your master suite, there shouldn't be any reason for you to bathe in the kitchen sink.
As the countertop rests on the sink cabinet and the sink sits on top of the countertop there is no real need for an extra panel if installing the
DW
beside the Domsjo - Kathy and others should have nothing to worry about.
