We want to run Tundra Maple laminate throughout the house (including kitchen). We're thinking of going with Beech effect cabinets. Is this a good choice? We want to keep it light in the kitchen but don't want white cabinets.
If so, what color and material counter top would you guys recommend?
We'll be putting in stainless appliances and probably a green glass tile backsplash.
Have you looked at the maple and the beech side by side (pick up a sample of the maple and take it to the kitchen area where they have all the doors and see how they look together. The beech has a lot of pink/orange tones in it. Birch would be another possible choice since it's light ... birch as more of the yellow tones in it. You'll probably want some contrast between the floor and the cabinets.

Since you are doing such light floors, you can go darker on your cabinets if you go with a really light countertop and backsplash.
I think you need something more dramatic to contrast with the floor. What about the new Abstrakt gray? It is shiney so it reflects light. I'm told it looks amazing with the birch. The whole combo would be awesome with tea green tiles and stainless appliances.
It's always useful to obtain doors or other panels to use as samples. An Ikea as-is room is very likely to have bits of birch, cheap. Small doors or cover panels won't set you back by much.,
Sounds like you're trying to keep it inexpensive, if you're considering beech effect, right? I too would recommend considering a darker cab with light top. If you have the money, one of the darker Nexus doors. If not, black Applad. Then a light counter, either in matching maple or very similar birch if you like the wood thing, or a white/grey laminate if not. If budget is not such an issue, then the solid surface Zeuss shows is indeed very nice!
I know that surface us super expensive, but a similar white speckle could be found in Formica or Wilsonart.
What about framing a cabinet in the Birch panels etc. but the doors and drawers are something contrasting? Again, the gray would be awesome, but so would red, brown/black or black.
