That's just what I was wondering. I have a similar situation in my kitchen, which is smaller. I live in a condo, so trenching may not be an option. I'd like to avoid a wall, but your example at least proves it can be interesting .

Hi Petra66,
The upper cabinets are 4 horizontal 30x15 cabinets with Rubrik doors. Unfortunately the only color choices were white, black or orange. I don't know if IKEA has added any new colors.
When you assemble the cabinets, make certain they are very square otherwise it's frustrating to the the rubrik doors to line up.

I considered a few other options such as angling the wall or angling the wall and having a steel shelf protude out of just one side of it. Having a thick column instead of a thin wall. What I really would have liked would have been a thin slot in the wall extending down from the ceiling to about 4 feet from the floor but my ceiling is so tall (12 ft) and my wall is pretty narrow.
I built a mockup of the kitchen from cardboard (1in in the mockup equaled 1 ft in real life) and that helped me a lot.
