Slate tile is beautiful and cheap -- has anyone ever used it for a countertop, or is it too "dimensional"? I'm also considering wood counters with slate backsplash... Thanks in advance for any advice you can give!

I would think it would not be smooth enough. What about porcelain tile that looks like slate?

msbridget - Hi!

Wish I could remember the name of the company, but I believe they were here in Virginia...may have even had Virginia in their name. I know of someone who used their slate on their countertops and a year later were still pleased. Try googling Virginia + slate.

Good luck!

Susan

Slate is gorgeous in a backsplash. We just finished a condo with a 4" slate backsplash that came out well.

This kitchen is where we spent our kitchen budget. Doh!

Wow, that's bee-you-ti-ful! Congrats on a job well done. The slate looks great, as does the rest of the kitchen. How did you find the corner sink to work out for you?

Thanks, Susan! We were pleased with how it came out, but that is a condo for sale, so we never got to use the kitchen. The corner sink feels good, though. And we love the slate backsplash.

That's our last Home Depot kitchen, now that we've discovered Ikea!
