Can someone explain what is a blind corner cabinet? What are the dimentions? Do you buy it at ikea? Are you talking about the 49" ikea corner cabinet. How does lee valley hardware improve it?
Blind corner cabinets are used to access the space that would normally be inaccessible when turning an inside corner...the part that gets stuck behind the two perpendicular cabinets. IKEA has two of these, the 37" one that has a right angle and a door that opens on two hinges (like it folds in half) and a 49" one that goes straight back into the corner and has a half-moon style shelf that can be pulled out and turned through the small door at the front of the cabinet. The Lee Valley unit makes the regular 36" base cabinet able to be used just like the 49" cabinet but requiring only 36" of wall space instead of 49" so it is useful for tight corners.
Well put, Eva. However, the Lee Valley Unit actually requires a bit more than 36" of space, even though you can use a 36" cabinet. As measured against the wall, it's basically 24" for the perpendicular cabinet, plus about 18" for the filler + the door to which the shelving unit attaches. If you want a larger door, more space is required. Using the Lee Valley Unit saved me about 7" over what the Ikea 49" unit would have required. If you do a search for lee valley blind corner, you can probably find the thread where I explain how to plan for and install it. (I can't look right now because I'm supposed to be working

Gee thanks! If I decide to leave my appliances in place that will come in very handy! I have 44 inches on one side, and a little less on the other side.
Now I'm going to search for the lee valley blind cabinet!
I've read the thread and the link to Lee Valley. It looks great, but what I don't understand: If the cabinet is 36", and you need a minimum 15" door, and preferably 18", does this mean that the 36" cabinet does not go all the way into the corner? Do you just put it in far enough for the door to fit? (ie 18 inches in the corner, and 18 inches out of the corner?)

Yes - it needs to be pulled away from the wall so the door will fit.
This is exactly what I didn't realize when we planned to use it and why we don't have one today, sadly

I plan to use the 36" as a blind corner unit on a peninsula run. The cover panels will cover the other side, so you wouldn't see it pulled-out from the wall. There's really no need to use the 49" since the Lee Valley fits perfectly in a 36". The remainder of the space in the 49" would be just wasted space that you could otherwise use for something else. It's great that the IKEA cabs. can be modified as such.
OMGoodness -- remember me.......the one that has to have all my spices alphabetized in the drawer !!.......
EWWWWWWW ......the thought of dog bowls in my cabinets .....well, I probably couldn't handle it.
Although, I thought the idea was ingenious to put the dog bowls in the cabinet pullout until I thought about Max scratching the door to get to it. And the way he slobbers and everything, well, it would be a slobbery mess!!
