I just ordered my 2nd IKEA kitchen for our rebuilt house.Â* Our first was Stat White and we liked it (will now be storagea and garage cabinets).Â* Our new kitchen is Adel medium brown.Â* We really loved how rich these looked in the store.Â* The fit and finish and color made them really stand out to us.Â* I am a bit worried design wise about these with our floor choice.Â* The flooring will be a rustic teak and is a very similar shade of brown (although with alot of dark and light variation and a very yellow/gold undertone).Â* After seeing some adel med brown istalled pictures I am worried we will be creating a too dark kitchen with too much wood tone.Â* Any opinions?Â* Our appliances are all stainless steel and the house is a rustic traditional spanish mission style.Â*Â*ThanksÂ*

Confucious say: "Solve dark problems with lights".

Rustic teak flooring sounds beautiful! I'm so jealous. We used to live on our sailboat with teak flooring, walls, bunks, cabinetry, lockers, etc. -- all were wood and even on a small boat (think living in a hallway), with sufficient lighting, both natural and of the electrical variety, it didn't seem dark.

What's your lighting situation like? Lots of windows? What kind of light do you get -- all day sun, North light, morning only? And, do you have sufficient overhead, task, general and spot lighting? That's where your salvation lies. Lighting.

The other factors to consider are your countertop, backsplash and wall color, although in my opinion, lighting is far more important in terms of functionality.

Welcome to the forums! Looking forward to seeing your progress!

Susan

Thanks for the input!Â* We have plenty of overhead lighting in the room, pendants above the island and will have under cabinet lighting.Â* There is a window over the sink and a single light french door window on the opposite wall.Â* I feel good about the lighting and your input makes me feel better.Â* I guess I am just used to the old white kitchen, but we really love the adel med brown now.Â*Â*The counter will be a natural granite, the speckled white, tan, gold one (I forgot the name right now) and the backsplash is a talavera painted tile in light colors with a creme / mossy green overall color.Â* Also, I think some throw rugs will break up the all wood floor.Â* This kitchen is open to our family room on one whole wall and is sparated on that "wall" by the island - so it will have an open feel. Thanks again!

Darbydog - I just demo'd my golden oak kitchen to put in a Lidingo white one, so I'm having kind of the opposite pangs. Will the white be too bright..etc. Every time I go into Ikea (pretty frequently now ) I stop and drool over the Adel brown kitchen. It looks fantastic with stainless appliances, and all your other surfaces sound like they'll go together really well.
