PLan A for comment please

OK so thanks for the help so far in getting the plan ready to share. I have been through at least 10 iterations of my own, but need to firm it up. At the moment I hav a cramped u-shaped kitchen and I can't get to the eating area without walking around the penisula. It drives me crazy every time I need a fork a plate whatever! So I'm tryint to creat more flow. In this design I'm moving the opening to the dining room (on the stove wall) from the eating area to the other side of the stove closer to the fridge. We rearely use the dining room but at least this way it allows me to shift things a bit and give me room for an island. The stove wall and pantry wall are supporting walls. In my dreams I would knock out the pantry wall into the faliy room but it's full of duct work, electrical etc. I am able to shift the door in the dining room since it the cold air return only goes to the main floor it's easier to deal with. The patio door is on the bottom left as a large window. next to it is the opening to the family room and up by the fridge on the left is the opening to the front hall. At the moment I'm looking at AMB and Adel white combo with granite counters, a french door counterdepth fridge, built-in cook top with a wall oven under the cooktop and for space saving.. an over-the range microwave. PLease let me know what you think and thanks again.

Re: PLan A for comment please

I'm working on it but refining the plan is very difficult since the program constantly stalls and crashes. I think it doesn't like me OK so I gave up on Ikea software, but managed to do in home designer and saved some screen shots for comment. Ignore the additional moulding everywhere it's a default setting I think. Basically the pantry wall is already existing in ugly cabinets that I want to update with AMB. I plan on horizontals stacked on 39" uppers on top of 30" cabs. This software won't let me show it in glass. In the open area I will store my beloved espresso maker There is 40" between end of island and fridge. and 42" between stove and sink. 36" between island and pantry. Opening next to stove leads to dining room (rarely used), opening between fridge & pantry leands to front hall and family room. OPening at the other end of pantry leads to family room. Next to that opening is the patio door to the back yard. I was planning to use fridge cabinets to make awindow bench on one side of the table. Thanks for your ideas. Oh and just ignore the fact that it shows grass and fields in the other rooms...

Re: PLan A for comment please

OK so a just realised the sink was missing from a couple of those pics, but it's there in the island next to the DW . I plan on more lighting for sure and under cabinet lighting. The island and pantry wall should be AMB while the stove & fridge walls will be Adel White. The Fridge will be a Haier french door and I would like an 30" induction cooktop with a wall oven in the cabinet beneathe the counter, but I put a range there for the moment. The sink is in a 30" cabinet. I'm attaching some of the colour selections as well. One thing is I picked up an AMB door front from IKEA and I am surprised at how much darker it is in reality compared to the catalogue. Ok so the pics ended up in the gallery. how do I link to them?

Re: PLan A for comment please

Good job getting something posted! Ikea's planner is headed for a major change very soon--stay tuned!

Meanwhile, here are some quick comments on the posted design. First, the basic organization looks just fine. But I'd change virtually every one of those base unit to full drawers. You haven't lived until you've had full extension soft close automatically closing blum drawers--and Ikea has them MUCH cheaper than anyone else! Seriously, your knees and back will thank me and you'll never lose a pot or pan in the deep dark back corner of your cabinets again! I am speaking from personal experience: I lost my doubleboiler in the back corner of our old place when we moved (friend packed that area and she didn't see it--I didn't realize until it was too late!).

Otherwise, how will you control for sink splashes at the back of the single with a single cab depth island? Just something to ponder.

Re. door finishes: please note the white and wood Adels use entirely different kinds of finishes so they feel quite different. Just make sure you're OK with that.

Re: PLan A for comment please

Thanks NBeth. The two 15" cabs are pull outs actually for trash and recycling. I need big bins since our city's gone to composting everything (including meat, pizza boxes you name it), but still recycling glass and metal. In the pantry wall since it is only 12 " deep I wasn't sure the drawer wood be as useful since they are only 9"deep. Would they hold costco sized cereal boxes?

Also, by moving my opening to the dining room to where it is in the picture I no longer have any corner cabs! My worst enemy. I have lost so many things off the back of a lazy susan and I'm no gymanst/ contortionist to go get them out.

As for the sink drips . I don't know if I can do anything really, but at the moment our sink is in a penisula so it's basically the same scenario. I haven't had too many issues.

Re: PLan A for comment please

Ah I wasn't registering depth--sorry--brain dead today! No, I don't think the shallow drawers are nearly as useful in most circumstances.
