Discuss How do I post my IKEA kitchen design? on IKEAFANS.com. We're Personalizing the IKEA Experience. How do I post my IKEA kitchen design? - Need help with planning your remodel? Want a kitchen planner to review your ideas? This is the happenin' spot!.
I'm new to this site although I've been a frequent visitor to That Home Site. Like many others I'm in the midst of trying to design a new kitchen. I've been using the IKEA kitchen planner software and would love to post it online to get feedback from other people who have been thinking a lot about kitchen designs. I'm just not sure how to convert the 3-D view from the IKEA file into something that I can attach on this site. Could some kind soul let me know how to do it?
I will give you a brief tutorial on how to create a picture you can attach to a post.
1. In the IKEA planner, when you have the view you want to save, choose FILE/SAVE AS.
2. When you get the "Save as" screen, change the file type (drop down menu at the lower part of the screen) to .bmp
3. Save your file and remember where it is located.
4. If possible, use a graphics program to convert the bitmap file to a JPG file, they are smaller. There is a size limitation of files you can upload of 102400 bytes so make sure your final file is smaller than that in size.
5. Create a post or a reply on the thread you want to post the picture on.
6. Type your post as usual, then just below the area you type in you will see a place to add attachments (a little spot followed by a "Browse.." button)
7. Click Browse and navigate to where your file is located, and click on the filename then click open.
8. Click SEND and your image should appear inline on the new post. Only one pic per post, I think, so if you have more then you will need to create a new post for each one.
Wow what a quick response! Thanks. This forum is an amazing source of information. I appreciate your detailed instructions, however, I wasn't able to follow them. I wonder if I'm missing some vital software. When I tried to save it, the only option in the file type box is "IKEAHome Planner Files {*.fpf}. Any ideas?
Are you using the 2005 planner or 2006? I think 2005 only has .fpf as an option, where 2006 expanded the options to include .bmp. But, this is coming from someone who still hasn't downloaded 2006, so I could be flat wrong. Another way to do it is to do a Print Screen, then paste to a graphics program such as MS Paint or Adobe Photoshop. Then save as a manageable size file, and post as per eva's instructions. You could also post it to Photobucket or another online photo hosting service and follow the directions in the Fansite Updates and Announcements forum to post photos located online. If you continue to have trouble, email me and I'll do what I can to get your plans posted. Good Luck!
Susan

Thanks for the tip re the 2006 version - it's probably better for me to be using the most up-to-date planner. But I'm still having technical difficulties. I got the 2006 version, created a planwith that version, saved it as a bmp file & attached it to my message but I don't think it worked. What kind of a graphics program would I need to convert the bmp file to a jpg file? Not sure if I have any thing like that. Thanks.
