Quick general design question

When putting a 30 inch high wall cabinet between two 39 inch high wall cabinets (like above a sink), is it generally recommended to put cover panels on the exposed ends of the box?

If so, do the cover panels go all the way up to the ceiling or do they just get sliced down to 9 inches and screwed into the sides of the exposed parts?

It seems like installing them all the way to the ceiling will leave me with a 5/8" gap between the cabinets and defeat the look of installing them flush together.

There's no reason you have to use full cover panels. You may want to use a cover panel to cover the exposed bottom of the cabinet as well, since it will be either white or birch and won't match your darker doors. It will be more visible than the bottoms of the regular size wall cabinets. If you have a light rail along the bottom of the adjacent cabinets make sure your cover panel extends the proper distance below the bottom of the cabinet to accomodate the light rail. The cover panels are designed to be a couple of inches longer than the cabinet sides for this reason.
