Liljestad questions

I am planning my kitchen remodel and have a few questions. I have learned a lot just reading the forums here but still am unsure on all the details.

Is there a plain (non-contoured) deco strip or light rail for Liljestad?

I would like to use something to hide the bottom of the cabinets but think the contoured is too dressy for my kitchen. I know some people use cover panels on the bottom of the wall cabs but I am using a corner cab and don't really want to try to make that work.

I would like to use a sink cab modification with the drawer on the bottom like I have seen here. Can I just order a regular 24 cab with 2 doors and one drawer and assemble it upside down? Or do I have to order a 24 sink base and then buy a drawer kit?

Thanks for your help.

Re: Liljestad questions

Good luck with your Lilje kitchen - I just installed one and I love it!

I cannot help on the sink base - I can't remember if the sink base was any different from the other cabinets or not. Sorry!

As for trim - on the IKEA website it looks like the Perfekt Nexus in brown might work but I'm not sure - I just went with the contoured. I'm guessing someone can answer that for you or if you're near an IKEA you could check it out.

Re: Liljestad questions

Thanks for your reply. I guess I will need to make one more trip to the store before I am ready to order. I had hoped to avoid that but I think it will be worth it.

Glad to hear you love your kitchen. I am excited to turn my kitchen into one that really functions.

Re: Liljestad questions

Just a thought - you could definitely call your IKEA and ask for the kitchen department and ask about both items. As long as the trim is "dark brown" it will probably work.

Also - check out the IKEA site for the sink base. I find their new site hard to navigate because they have drop-down type menus in the middle of pages - I keep missing entire collections that I KNOW they have because of the weird site design. I just think it's kind of hard to find details once you get into your main category.

And I might suggest asking the sink-base question just as a general question in another post. Some people might be skipping this post because they think it's only Liljestad-related (due to the subject). The sink base frame will be universal regardless of door style.

And, though I don't want you to rely soley on me, I just opened my sink cabinet and I think the cabinet is exactly a regular frame. It's 36" but I think the difference with the sink base is that they will also order you the false-front bracket for the fake drawers at the top. I don't really see a reason you couldn't order a 24" cabinet with the door and drawer like you'd said. But, again - I'd post this as a general question because there are lots of people around here who know thist stuff inside-out!

Re: Liljestad questions

Thanks again for taking the time to reply. I think I will post separately about the sink base.

Did you use the contoured decor strip on the bottom of your cabinets? If so, would you mind posting a picture. I have never seen a picture of it done that way and my store just used cover panels on the bottom of the display like they do in the catalog picture.

Did you replace the edge banding? I am still trying to decide whether to do so or not. I want to decide before I order so I install it as part of the assembly project.

Re: Liljestad questions

I do have a few rotten pictures of the kitchen - when lighting is much better I'll try to take a few more to post. I know it's pretty hard to find Liljestad pics.

For the bottom trim, you can see it in this picture - please excuse the messy kitchen and the hanging cords! We weren't done (obviously) but I had to send a picture to a friend!

For what we did on the top, see this pic - we have it like this on the top of our kitchen cabinets (now - it wasn't on yet in the pic above) and on the built-ins in the dining area.

And, I did not replace edgebanding - I painted the edges after the cabinets were all up. I am not super picky (my husband would totally disagree with this!) so I thought I might be satisified with the birch and adjust the doors but it was too obvious to me. Since they were all up, replacing the edgebanding sounded really painful to me. So I painted with plastic primer first and then went over it in Ralph Loren "Galvanized." It's worked out really well so far. I posted about it just the other night on an old thread because I know that people search. I did the kitchen cabinets with several coats until it was opaque but when I did the built-ins in the dining room I noticed that if I more swiped on a coat or two it actually looked a little like wood! Either way works. Here's a pic of the "wood" look:

I'll see if I can find that thread that I posted the other night with a few more details.

Here's the link I replied to a few days ago - you can also search "sharpie liljestad" for the original post - there's more information there, too, from others.

Re: Liljestad questions

Thank you so much for your help. The pictures were very useful.

In one of the pictures it looks like you used cover panel under your range hood. Is that correct? How do you like the look? I don't have room for cover panel all the way up and am hoping this solution will look okay.

I did end up going to the store this weekend and College Park has a new liljestad kitchen that was very helpful. They used the decor strip on the bottom which they hadn't done before. It looks different than I had imagined. I like it.

They had also used one drawer on top of a 30" stack instead of the two 15" it comes with. I guess you just have to keep the two extra drawer fronts since they come a set.

I still don't know what to do about the edge banding. Dh says it doesn't bother him but it isn't in our kitchen yet!

I also finally got through to a person who told me they stock liljestad so I don't have to pre-order.

I feel like I am getting closer.

Re: Liljestad questions

Okay, I just re-looked at your pictures and think I imagined the range hood or saw it somewhere else and got confused. Please excuse that line of questions.
