Hi,

I'm assembling "literally" my kitchen cabinets and realized I have no counter support or oven support for my slide-in range.

I don't know if I should be looking for a side and back cabinet (I don't see one on ikea) I can modify, or if anyone has any ideas for counter support (I have a 36" counter there on the peninsula to make room for a breakfast bar) as well as a support for not pusing the range out of position. I don't think the cover panel I ordered is going to cut it for either!

I'm trying to include pictures of my design, I hope it works!

Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated!

Your slide in range will just, well, slide in! They are not designed to need support, and I doubt they will slide out of position. They weigh a couple hundred pounds. If you've got it in an island (which I think is what you did) then the countertop will probably go around three sides, right? If so, the countertop might need cleats on the two sides of the back part for support across there, so you would simply attach the cleats to the side of the cabinet on either side.

Thanks, am I worrying too much? Also, I've got basic DIY skills, but I'm still learning my terminology. What is a cleat, and where do I get them?

Hi, a cleat is a piece of wood (usually 1x3 or 2x4 - depending on the load it needs to support) that is attached to the wall or adjacent cabinet in order to support the countertop (in this case). Because the slide-in range is only 22-23" inches deep you have room behind it to construct a support (using 2x2 material) - this will support the countertop and provide backing for the panel across the back. If you do this the rear panel should go down to the floor (no toekick) - use the 36"x96" panel.

Re: Help! Slide-in Range support

Dede did you put oven panels on the side of your stove? Did you attach them to the adjacent cabs then?

And how did this back countersupport and back of peninsula work out? Do you have a pic!

THANKS MUCH
