Need help with a kitchen layout.
Brief history. I have a small ranch. Once I moved in, the wall between the kitchen and the Breezeway was knocked out in order to open up the kitchen.... problem #1..... it steps down from the kitchen. That now became a Dining Room.
Second thing we did was open up a 4' opening to the LR. problem #2 lost the wall space.
Although it is very open and airy.
3rd thing we did, convert the one car garage into a 4 seasons room......we hardly use it!
So, about 5 years ago I deceided to update my kitchen cabs. Problem #3.....wasn't patient, didn't take the time for layout planning, and just did it. Problem #4. The cabinets are Mills Pride Classic......My decor has always been contemporary for years. In fact many of my scandinavian furniture pieces are from the 70's (teak)....why I choose the roman arch style is beyond me..... of course we won't get into how they are not holding up....
so, when I did my update.....this is what I ended up with......
I now have a very, and I mean very, small galley kitchen, with a round table and 2 chairs (which is located on Wall A in front of the large window as described below. Where the wall is between the 2 windows (on wall A) one side of the galley is there. I have my 27" sink base, a 24" opening for DW (that I never got), a 15" drawer cabinet on one end and a 12" cabinet on the other end. This faces the little eat in area that is opened. (with the 15" drawer cab butting up to Wall A.
On the other side of the "galley" is where my side by side refrid, 18" cab, stove, and 12" cab are. (96" wall) with the refrid being on the side closest to wall C.
Wall C, I have 42" wall cabinets that are each 36" glass fronts. Below, I took wall cabinets (12" depth") and "floated" them on the wall. This is my pantry. I needed the 12" depth to not block the hallway pass through so to speak.
So now, I'm looking for ideas of opening up the whole space. maybe getting rid of the table and chairs and put an island in. I am having a problem with the 4' LR wall and wonder what would work now, because the kitchen will now more then likely be visible, and wonder what would look good. I don't want to close the wall, but I would be open to maybe closing in the opening somewhat to the step down DR/aka breezeway. This whole area faces the south and backyard, and it's just so bright, I really don't want to lose this.
Here are my kitchen measurements.
Wall A 13' 7". It has a double-hung window that is 62" located 4" from left corner, and another window measuring 21" located 45" from right corner. Bothe windows are 38" from the floor. Wall B measures 11"2" (which includes a 36" opening to hallway) so actual wall space is actually only 96" Wall C (opposite of wall A) has a wall 72" (hallway end) 4' opening to LR, and a 2' wall...meets with wall D Wall D has a short 20" wall on Left facing the DR(aka BW) 70" opening (steps down) and 44" on the right....meeting wall A.
any suggestions are very much welcomed and appreciated.
The wall between the 2 windows on A wall, I would like to put my stove there with an under the cabinet hood. I"m in love with the Bosch dual fuel range, and in the original kitchen layout, there was a gas stove, so I know the pipe is there and good to go. I saw one that I could by for way below what they sell for....
I also have bought a Bosch
DW
. It's sitting in my LR now still in box, unopened.
Someday, I will change my current s/s fridge for a counter depth size...
I'm liking the Bosch one also
DW definitions
DW can mean Dear or Darling Wife (or substitute your expletive), or alternatively DishWasher. Take your clues from the context.
I know you gave all the dimensions and diligently measured everything, but could you do me a huge favor and draw a little picture? I'm a visual kind of person and my brain is in danger of short circuiting with all the numbers. I'll be happy to work up a design or two for you to give you some options, but I'm in dire need of a floor plan style picture.
