Due to a last minute design change, our cabinet run will now end with a dishwasher, rather than having a 12" cabinet past the dishwasher. This has caused me some concern when it comes to supporting our granite countertop.

Obviously I would have a cover panel on the side of the dishwasher, but will a single cover panel support the 24" of granite that will cover the dishwasher?

As a bit of an aside, how would I have a freestanding cover panel on the side of the dishwasher anyway? L-brackets galore attached to the wall behind the dishwasher?
