I have never posted here before, but have been attempting to plan the layout of our kitchen that we'll be remodeling here shortly!
I attempted to use the Planner, but it wasn't really working out for me...So I did a real basic layout, and am going to attempt to use the Sketchup tool through Google shortly to see if I can do that.
We are planning on doing cabinets in Liljestad, with dark cork plank flooring, and granite countertops - haven't decided if we'll be going with dark or light on that yet.
As for some background on the layouts - I have been trying to decide between doing a commercial range, or a double oven & cooktop route - I think the double oven and cooktop works out better for us because we currently don't have natural gas piped to the kitchen area - I do like to cook though, so I'd love the capacity of a dual oven setup.
Also, our kitchen size is 11'x13' - I heard that ideally you need 12' for an island, so I didn't put an island in because I think our kitchen would be too small....
In the layout with the cooktop along the wall, I'm debating if I should do a cabinet w/ micro, or just a hood....
As I said, I love to cook...So I need tons of storage, and I really don't want to limit myself....I'd love to have a double door pantry, or two single door pantries somewhere in the kitchen.
Any ideas/critiques on the layouts would be greatly appreciated, and I will attempt to get a 3D model up soon
I almost forgot to mention about the pics....
*The actual picture is our kitchen currently, a little messy since the pic was taken move-in day
*The one layout pic is current layout, and then the other two are the possibilities I would like opinions on

Out of the three options, I like the one with the fridge at the end towards the dining room.
I would suggest that you not get a telescoping downdraft, or a microhood, if it is at all possible to avoid it. Especially if you're planning on a professional range, neither will give you the air movement required and you'll find yourself in a bit of a jam later on. Plus, a peninsula location with a pro range with seating beyond it is the least desirable, due to cooking odors, smoke and grease besetting your vistors!
If you are planning on a pro range, but want to wait until you get natural gas (which I would consider mandatory) then place the cooktop and the venting now to be easily upgraded later.
I'd suggest you move your double oven down that wall a bit and perhaps place a 15" pullout pantry on the doorway edge, so you don't have people accidentally walking around the corner straight into an open oven door.
11' is tight for an island, because the cabinets on either side will require a bit over 4 feet. An island will need to have a minimum of 3 feet of walkway space around it, meaning you could only have an island 1 foot wide; not very practical!
I would love to see some scale drawings of your space, with dimensions of walls, windows etc.
I prefer the third picture, only because it puts your cooktop on the same side of your kitchen as the sink. I think I'd worry about filling pots and crossing the kitchen through the pathway, or worse yet carrying a boiling pot to the sink to strain, in case anyone else were walking through at the same time.

I don't like the range/cooktop on the penninsula. The penninsula is open to the dining area, right? When entertaining, it is natural for you to set food and drinks out for your guests on the penninsula - hard to do if the cooktop is in the way. Plus, people tend to congregate along the penninsula when visiting with the cook - do you want the range right there? Also, think about setting and clearing the table - the penninsula is the natural "landing pad" for dishes going out or in, give them some room.
I'd put the cooktop on the wall to the left of the sink. Is that possible? Then I'd move the ovens over with the fridge and pantries.
In addition to renewing my previous comments, the cooktop on the peninsula is a problem for three reasons; one, you have no counterspace to the right of the cooktop and two, i's a dangerous location right next to the doorway and three, there's no backsplash/protected area at the back. And venting it is going to be expensive and intrusive on your narrow walkway.
The aisle space is too tight...you need a minimum of 36 inches, preferably 42-48 inches, as passageway.
I would recommend turning the kitchen into a galley style and eliminating the peninsula at that side. Move the DW to the other side of the sink and put the cooktop on the window wall instead.
Okay, Cooktop Peninsula thing....Bad idea! ha ha ha
What if I were to put the Cooktop where the Double oven is, and move the double ovens over to the large wall next to the pantry - like Nicole suggested?
I'm worried about getting rid of the peninsula because it provides quite a bit of working space....Unless you think I could make it up somewhere else?
I'm just worried because the kitchen is 11'4" across, and if it is galley style w/o the peninsula - there would be a huge open space in the center of the kitchen....Would that be the best you think?
Also....About the Aisle width Eva - which one are you referring to?
If you are talking about the 29" doorway over by the double ovens that is sort of already set in drywall The house I believe has been that way since it was built....And with the fridge being right next to that opening (currently) it is quite a pain
I was talking about the aisle width at the peninsula...especially with the cooktop there.
I think having the cooktop where the ovens are is still a hazard, since you'll have it right at the edge of the doorway where people walk past. You need at least 9", preferably more, on the side of the cooktop.
The dimentions of your kitchen are almost the same as my cooking space - I'm 11'3" x 13. The layout I proposed is very similar to what I'll be putting in.
I'm not thrilled about putting the range on the sink wall because I'm a stickler for having the sink centered on the window.
If you put the cooktop on the oven wall, you could have up to 18" on the left of it - more than enough room.
I agree with Eva, your passageway is too tight. Since you really want to keep the penninsula, I would shorten it by a foot to 5'. That would give you almost 4' of walkway, and a penninsula 5' long is still a terrific open workspace. (That's what I'm doing.)
Sorry to keep bothering you all with my random ideas - ha ha ha....
I just am not happy with the layout of our kitchen! :-P If things were only in different places, or if the window wasn't 5' wide!
If we moved the dishwasher to the other side of the sink - could I put it on an angle in the corner, or does that take up significant room to do something like that???
Also.....Another thought would be.....If we moved the doorway (that is shown near the oven cabinet in the pics) to the other side of the kitchen (closer to the window wall) - could this bring new layout prospects???
Thanks for dealing with me, and all of my confusion!!! I am definitely not a kitchen planner - ha ha ha
