Well, it's not in the kitchen, but the plan is to use AKURUM in the laundry room. The entrance from our garage is into our laundry/mudroom. The plan is to put a deep bottom cabinet for a bench (and shoe storage), two lockers above with no doors (for hanging coats) and cabinets across the top for storage. Also requires about 4 inches of filler... I may have to adjust to see if I can loose that.
Let me know what you think! Hopefully I'll be working on this project before the summertime...
Lots of us have used Akurum cabinets all over the house. Are these standard-sized American-type units or front-loaders? If they're smaller, more modern units, buy the pedestals for them. Heck, consider pedestals even if they're regular units.
We put Avsikt frosted glass doors on the cabinets in our laundry area. You can sort of see through them but not quite.
Keep trying different sizes of cabinets in your designs and consider where you will have your closet rod for hanging things as they come from the dryer.
I love it. We did a similar thing a few months ago and it's made our laundry SO much more functional!
What doors are you planning?

David... They are standard style washer/dryer. Top load washer, Front load washer. Thanks for the reminder about a clothes bar. Not sure if I need that full width or just as wide as the dryer. Would certainly cut down on cost! I was also planning on putting a folding flat drying rack (ANTONIUS) on the side wall above the washer.
stacylu... Not sure on door design yet. Probably depends on the budget. More than likely white in color.
Only other thing I haven't figured out yet is where to store a full sized ironing board. Right now it is leaning against the wall across from the dryer. It fits perfectly where the door opens from the kitchen. I'd like to get it out of sight though.
I'm also wondering if we want a spot for laundry too... Either a bag or hamper of some sort. That way I can just drop my dirty work uniforms on the way into the house.
Will your top-load washer be able to open fully with the long wall cabinets above it? The screen image makes it look a little close.
I'm also with the pp on plenty of space for the clothes rod -- although, in the interest of full disclosure, I tend to air dry almost everything. You may also want to consider leaving yourself space for flat-drying clothing (e.g., sweaters), in addition to air-drying/hanging more delicate clothing. I really like your idea of being able to leave your grubbies behind you the minute you walk into the house! (If I had my way, entryways from the garden and/or mudroom areas would have easy-peasy rinse off showers!)
While we're kicking around ideas here, I know absolutely nothing about the Pax line, but with all its cool do-dads and what-its, it may also have some functions that could work for your tall-cabinet storage space there...just a thought!
That looks good, but I second the suggestion to consider Pax without doors for the area to the left of the washer. If you have 40" width available, it would give you lots of flexible storage options, and the cabinet without doors will be cheaper than a kitchen cabinet. I could see using the top for bins or baskets on a shelf, then a coat hanging area below, and you could either use the bottom for pure storage (shoes, e.g.) or build in a bench (or if you don't want to build, maybe use a 36" over fridge cabinet placed on the bottom of the Pax, with storage inside.)
Another alternative is to use a kitchen pantry cabinet - I figure if you're using the wall space, the extra depth would be nice.
The Antonius clothes dryer looks great, and they make pretty nice laundry bags too.
