Cabinet costs w/o doors? | dampers? | prices for Adel MB doors and drawer fronts?
Hiya,
I have a few questions I hope y'all can help me with:
1)What is the cost of cabinets without the doors?
Specifically, I'm looking at the birch effect boxes in these sizes:
W3030 #30049420
W3039#10049421
Fan cab/top to refrigerator 36"Wx12 7/8"Dx15.25"H (#90049422)
What gives? Why are the new drawers WITHOUT the dampers the same price as those WITH the integrated dampers? When I order new base cabinets, do I need to get BOTH the $7 dampers and the drawers separately or are the new drawers actually complete? In other words, do I need to explicitely specfify that I want the drawers with the integrated dampers?
3. Adel MB drawer fronts and door costs?
My Ikea kitchen is about 8 yrs. old and has doors no longer in stock. I'm considering replacing the old ones with Adel MB too. Does anyone have a copy of their Adel MB draft order I can look at to get a sense of how much the drawer fronts and doors cost? In addition to replacing some W3030 doors, I might update the 24" wide and 18" wide base cabinet doors and draawer fronts.
A rhetorical question: why is this so hard?
It's challenging enough designing and financing a kitchen. Why is the ordering process so tricky? In the 1920's people used to buy houses and farm parts through print catalogues. I've ordered furniture through various Web sites without a hitch. But Ikea? It takes days to process an online order--the last time I tried was 2 years ago. Not everyone drives and or wants to drive to the store. Last week the Schaumburgh kitchen dept. told me that they no longer do fax orders. Their kitchen order form looks just like Woodbridge's--with the fax number, Nexus BB, and Hallarum crossed out. And when I called the Home Shopping phone number on Tues. 6 p.m. CT, the office was closed! Aren't they supposed to be open until midnight ET?
I've got other questions about long-distance ordering but I'll post those later in the ordering forum.
There are two brochures in the IKEApedia that have (I think) what you're looking for:
The AKURUM Kitchen System has the prices for the cabinets only, just look at the bottom of the tables on pages 5-9 under the heading Frame Only. The other prices are all inclusive, frame only is just the cabinet carcass itself.
The Doors and Drawer fronts by themselves are listed in the AKURUM Doors and Drawer Fronts Pricelist for 2006 brochure, which I just finished posting. Susan's been after me to get it up there for a couple days, so thanks for the added reason that made me actually dig it out and get it up there... Hope that helps?
James

James--thank you so much for the info on frames-only prices and the door prices.
Sheesh! I have those cabinet printouts and yet I never saw those prices.
Can you tell me, do I have to buy the $7 dampers with each set of drawers? I'm still confused about the "integrated dampers" described on the Web site.
i just ordered a TON of items and the dampers were packaged separately. Meaning that i can use them or choose not to. then i can return the unopened ones and pocket $7 per
I ordered my kitchen in early November with the sale and at that point the new drawers were out but the dampers were listed and priced separately.
One thing that helps greatly if you are anywhere near an Ikea is to go in and have them do a "draft order." It will break out the parts and the prices for you. It is very nice to get that, then take it home and study what it says.
Getting a draft order is a good idea. I wonder if that's possible to do long-distance. (This is the source of my anxiety--I live about 2.5 hrs. from Schaumburg.)
Since DulcineaK received her dampers wrapped separately, I won't sweat it about the dampers--I'll just make sure they're included one way another. My two-year-old banged his fingers last weekend in the silverware drawer. We need to retrofit those old drawers pronto and my new ones will have the new dampers.
This is one of the many things I love about this forum. I panic a little and then I find someone on the forum who's already sorted it out. Then I chill.
Some of the stores have an order form you can fill in and FAX to them ... I do not know about the store closest to you - if you look in the IKEApedia - you'll see a draft order form for several stores - I know there is one for IKEA West Sacramento ... you might want to phone your local store and ask to be connected to kitchens ... and see if they have an order form they can FAX to you. I agree that the draft order is incredibly helpful.

Thanks, Doreen. I checked with Schaumburg earlier this week and they said they no longer do fax orders. I did get a copy of their order form, though. But until I read your reply, I hadn't considered fax orders from other stores. I'll check with the Bolingbrook and Twin Cities!
Doorstyle: Lidingo Doors (Kitchen/Bath), Numerar Oak (Waterlox)
E - Regarding the dampers . . . I believe that with most drawers you must purchase a set ($7/set) for each drawer. The only drawers that I've ever encountered that had the dampers already integrated into the rails are the shallow depth (12" from front to back instead of the full 20+").
I know that this all can be confusing at times so just let us know if you have any questions or need additional info. We're here for you!
Hi, Thanks for the info on buying just the frames for cabinets. I am considering custom door fronts (distressed over Hallarum discontinuation) and I assume if I buy just the frame that the hinges, shelves and legs would be sold separately. Where can I find the shelf prices? Also with drawer cabinets would the drawers inside the cabinet be sold separately? Any idea where I could find all that info?
Thanks, this forum is AWESOME! It's really hard to ask questions in Shaumburg because they're always so busy and you don't always get the person who knows all there is to know.
