Image Title: RMOVINGV Kitchen plans1 Description: I have been working on this design for a few months, but we arent closing on the house for a few more days. Because it isn't yet our house I have had little time to measure things and finally got the chance this week. There are weird soffits in the kitchen all the way across one wall and then just in one corner on the other wall. The room is 8x9 and has two doorways (though we are moving one of them to make this design work). There is no storage in this home except for a small walk in closet in the master bedroom so storage is a must. My husband is a chef and we have so much kitchen stuff. I have already ordered the appliances (black friday had double ebates), so the sizes of them cant change.
The current kitchen (and bathroom) is unusable and our purchase of this home was contingent on being able to immediately remodel before moving in.
We live over 200 miles from the closest, domestic, Ikea and I really hope I can get what I need in one shot. I called to ask some questions yesterday but just got voicemail. They called me back this evening but the woman seemed really uninterested in talking to me.
My husband dismantled the old kitchen today while I was at work. We had a very pleasant surprise, the soffits which we were told housed duct work don't, they are purely cosmetic so I am going to rework the plan with 39" cabinets where there are 30s and find something to put over the fridge. I am hoping to be able to go and get my cabinets and sink next thursday or friday so we can get on with it. YAY
Welcome to Ikeafans.
Congratulations on your new house. It looks like you'll have a really workable kitchen. We'd love to see pictures as you go... although it sounds like it's too late for "befores". I take my hat off to you for acting so quickly too.
We ordered a microfan because there is so little room and because there is no way to vent outside. It for some reason doesnt show up in the plans but it is there in the designer. To be able to print or use my pictures I have needed to save image as from the print screen in the planner so I dont know if it is a quirk or if it is something I am doing.
I reworked the plans last night and moved the 88" pantry to across from the fridge since now we can remove the soffit, I also added a cabinet above the fridge but it is the wrong size in the plan (but the right size on my order list) because the 36x18x24 would only let me put it on the floor (another quirk in the planner?).
I do have pictures of my husband almost finished the deconstruction. I am very proud of him for going and starting the work all on his own, he is usually someone you have to prod.
Congratulations on the house and e work accomplished so far. I have a couple of thoughts - alert the media - on the kitchen, but it would help to know which door goes where.
The door next to the fridge goes to the entry way, and by that I mean the 9 square foot area between the front door and the kitchen door and is open to the living room, the second door (the one we are moving) goes directly into the dining room. neither door is a door so much as an opening, and we haven't decided the final numbers on the one we are moving. We intend to put a shallow cabinet next to the door in the dining room as a sideboard. The wall that the stove is on is the wall shared with the living room and the fridge/sink wall is shared with our neighbor.
The home is a 2nd story flat with an estimated square footage of 840. Later I will show my bathroom plans which are tough since that room is 59.5"x98. We are moving from a larger condo with a larger (but not super functional) kitchen and two bathrooms into this unit in a better location, but it will be a big change.
I was worried that the cabinets you had chosen fit a little too perfectly. All it takes is one wall slightly out of whack to create chaos and one shouldn't have to use dynamite to squeeze a cabinet into its assigned position. I put a 36" cabinet over the refrigerator and added a couple of inches of filler next to it. That way you should have room for the Ikeafans Iconic Broom Closet next to the refrigerator: 4" Broom Closet Modification
The cabinet between the sink and the refrigerator is now an 18", to leave room just a little filler between the dishwasher and the wall. 18" should be enough to hold two trash?recycling bins in a Revashelf pullout. The wall cabinet arrangement with shorter cabinets over the sink is just an experiment, to try to negate the canyon effect created by parallel banks of 39" wall cabinets.
On the stove wall, again, I was worried about snug fit, so I opened up that end of the room - widened the doorway and let the 36" cabinet sneak into what used to be wall space. If that's not an option, then a 30" cabinet would be a safer fit there. The drawers next to the range became an 18" stack of shallow drawers so your personal chef has plenty of room for gadgets.
I would not put the glass fronted cabinet by the stove. Keeping it clean there could be a hassle. I would put glass fronted cabinets above the sink area. Depending on how much glass fronts you desire a whole bank of them looks really nice.
