Protective Film left imprints on stainless steel dishwasher

Need help on this one.

When I removed plastic protective film covering that was on dishwasher, it left imprints on the entire surface.

The name of the film is imprinted into the dishwasher door.
I tried using goo gone to remove it with no luck.

What should I do know. Anyone deal with this before? Any help is appreciated!
Granted the dishwasher was not installed until about a year after purchase, but the film should not have done that.

This is the dishwasher I have :

Oh wow, that stinks.

I've used Jinx Ink remover on ink-stained clothes for years Jinx Ink - 16oz - Ink Stain-Spot Remover - Neuhaus Chemical - Dry Cleaning Chemicals :: Norton Supply Co.
but I'd hate to see you try it on the door, only to have it create more problems before you contact Ikea. Maybe you could try the ink remover on an inconspicous place on a small stainless steel appliance (toaster oven?) to make sure it doesn't do something dreadful to the finish.

If you decide to risk the ink remover and you're on friendly terms with your local dry cleaner, you might ask if you can buy an ounce of ink remover from them (they use stuff like Jinx Ink), then dab at the door with a remover-moistened Q-tip to see if it has any effect on the stain. Ink removers are sometimes available at fabric stores like Joann's.

I sure hope you can find a way to fix this.

Edit: I found this article that suggests some other ideas. The Best Ways to Get Ink Off Appliances | eHow.com

and this hint: Stainless Steel Appliances Hello, Thought people out there would like to know a tip about cleaning stainless steel appliance doors etc. The folks at the Sears store use "baby oil" to get the finger prints and marks off the doors. I was nervous to try it but it works like a charm. I used a small amount on a napkin and wiped the fingerprints away. It also took off the glue from the tape that was used in shipping. K. MacPherson ~~ 9 Jul 2002

I can't personally vouch for any of these methods, but desperate times call for desperate measures. Good luck!

I dont think its ink, i think i have a bigger problem here.
Its almost as if the name is etched into the door.
I will try rubbing alcohol since I have that accessible, but I have a feeling the goo gone should of gotten it off.

Might have to call Ikea.

I think I'd call Ikea before I did very much to the door. You don't want them claiming that your remedies caused the problem.

I read through this topic: Refinish scratched stainless appliances
and now I'm wondering if a little spritz of WD-40 might help.

Barkeepers friend would probably etch away the imprints, but you have to be very careful with it. If you do not rub with the "grain" of the stainless steel you will see scratches on it.

You could also try stainless steel cleaner. I like the aerosol kind. That is probably a little safer to try before the barkeepers friend.

Re: Protective Film left imprints on stainless steel dishwasher

xueli, im hesitant to use barkeepers friend because more than likely it will polish the surface.

I can't believe this film would etch the finish like this.
Going to call ikea today.

In the mean time going to try the wd40, and also some rubbing alcohol/water mix i read somewhere else.

Re: Protective Film left imprints on stainless steel dishwasher

I called Ikea today.

Interestingly enough, they said to try mayonaise or peanut butter on it first. They said the oil based products should work. So apply, let it sit for 15 minutes then rub off.

Going to try that this weekend. Good thing is that they told me if that didnt work to call back with the actual serial number and that the door may have to be replaced.

Almost sounded like they are aware of the issue.

What a surprise, the mayonaise or peanut butter did not work, all it did was make my kitchen smell like peanut butter. Great.

Going to call Ikea tomorrow to request the door to be replaced.
