Just a quick update on progress. Demo was completed last week and most of the electrical was done.
This week was dedicated to the floors. They spent the first part of the week chipping out the old terrazzo. The new terrazzo was poured yesterday. I'm kinda bummed that i didn't get a photo of them removing the old floors. It was pretty amazing to see. Unfortunately they were faster than I thought and they ended up pouring a day early. Oh well.
Here's a shot of the kitchen after the new terrazzo was poured. Not much to look at. The real magic happens today when they grind the floor and start polishing. I can't wait to get home tonight and see what it looks like!
Here is our final Kitchen Design minus handle/knob selection
Oh, one more thing. We solved our "where to put a microwave" dilemma by going with a Sharp microwave drawer. We'll be placing it under the cooktop. I'm kinda bummed about losing that drawer space under the cooktop, but it'll be functional and won't eat up and counter space.
The terrazzo floors are finally done! It took longer than planned because our house didn't have enough power to run all the heave equipment they used. They ended up having to bring in a big generator to finish the job.
Our cabinet doors have been ordered and should be here in another 1.5-2 weeks. Things should really start to come together next week.
This is what the finished floors look like:
Here's a close-up. We love how the brown glass and the mother of pearl play off each other. The pictures don't really do the floors justice. The effect in person is stunning. I kinda hate having to put cabinets on them. :-)
Well, we're now in a holding pattern. We the ikea spring kitchen sale just two weeks away, we decided to put the project on hold until march 2nd. It pains me to wait, but we'll be saving over $1500 by waiting to purchase our cabinets and counters.
All electrical, plumbing and paint is complete and our cabinet fronts from Scherr's are in production. Once the ikea sale starts, it should be clear sailing.
Wow i LOVe this flooring.
We are also waiting for the sale. But we haven't even gutted our kitchen yet.
Tomorrow is step one in demolish for us. So we are still working on finalizing the layout and plan. I love the built in wine fridge. I tried to talk my husband into it, but he said we don't drink enough wine. I tried to explain if we had a wine fridge we would. But he replied that he didn't want his wife turning into a WINEO ouch.
LOL
Silent no more! The ikea Kitchen Sale is finally here so we are moving full steam ahead.
Went and placed my kitchen order first thing on Friday. Total savings after discount? $1700! Totally worth the wait.
Delivery arrived Saturday afternoon.
After getting over the initial shock of how many items there were sitting in our living room (200+), I got to work assembling.
Assembly went well and by EOD Sunday, all the base cabinets, except for the tall cabinets were assembled.
If you're curious, here's a close-up of our 24 in custom sink cabinet. Basically, it's a 24in base cabinet that I cut down using a table saw. Threw some cross supports in and Blam! Custom sink in ikea cabinet!
without sink
The countertop will go over the top edge of the sink so it was critical to make sure the cutout was the right height. What's that rule again? Measure 10 times and cut once? Perfect fit!
The custom cabinet doors are scheduled to arrive today or tomorrow. Once here, we'll begin installing the cabinets. By week's end, we should have a near-finished kitchen! I'll post progress photos as they roll in.

OK, one more photo I snapped of our floors this morning. They looked awesome in the sunlight. :-) Needless to say, I'm thrilled with them still.
