Do I do white or stainless with a stove that is both?

Hello, all you decorating gurus! I could use some help before my head spins off and falls onto the floor!

I noted on my blog that we have been wavering on the stove, but we think we have finally settled on this one: A Bosch in Titanium (white and stainless together.)Click for larger version
Do I do white or stainless with a stove that is both?

All in all, we like the stove very much. It comes in the above combo, or in "stainless", which is the same thing except stainless and black. The black is kinda clashing with my Adel white cabinets and my hope for a kind of traditional, New England cottage-y kinda look. The all white model doesn't have all the features I want, and to get all stainless means adding on $500, nothankyou!

So, here are the things making us batty:

The GE Advantium OTR model we want comes in stainless, but would have a lot of black accents (around the window, etc.), so we figure we should go with white. Does that make sense, or should we ignore the black around the window and the panel and match the stainless on the OTR to the stainless on the stove?

The fridge will be a 36" French door by Amana, and it will be about 30" away from the stove. The question is: should it be white, to match the OTR and part of the stove, or could we do stainless? WIll the whites "clash" because they are from different manufacturers? Or will the stainless clash across lines? Am I being silly worrying about that, since none of the whites will match with the cabinet whites anyway?

We are keeping our Maytag white dishwasher, which works perfectly and doesn't need to be replaced. It will be a bit of a way aways from the rest of the appliances. When it goes, we can replace it with whatever works best with regards to finish.

I'm thinking white would be best overall, but for a while I was commited to stainless because I thought it had a really great look. The new stove has kinda confused me. SHeesh, dual fuel was bad enough, but dual COLOR, now THAT'S a debate!

Thanks for any advice you wish to offer,
Emmie

I think since your cabinets are white, you could go with either stainless or white on the fridge. As long as the stainless matches the stainless on the range, that is....titanium and some other "metal" finishes can be really different than stainless, a gray rather than the shine of stainless. So you definitely want to check that.

If you do go with stainless on the fridge, I'd suggest going stainless with the DW when you're ready. Or use my favorite FXSheeting now

Going with the white Advantium makes sense, since it will be along the same visual plane as your white wall cabinets and will kind of recede if it's the same color. Ranges don't really do that because you see so much more of them exposed. Fridges, if they are "built in" looking, and dishwashers, only present one face so you can make them recede or make them stand out depending on the finish you choose.

Emmie, we are totally in the same boat.

I am installing Adel White cabs and planning on the Bosch Integra 700 series range (the slide-in) in Titanium. I keep going back and forth between a LG stainless FD fridge or a Jenn-Air Floating Glass fridge in white.

While I have seen the range in person, I didn't have a sample door with me so I can't comment how well the whites work together. However, because the frame around the oven and cooktop is stainless, the whites won't be "touching", which I think helps the different whites get along.

I agree with eva that a white micro will be a better choice. Not because of the stainless, but because all of the black trim that you mentioned. A couple other options for you ...

*Bosch makes an OTR in Titanium... http://www.ajmadison.com/cgi-bin/ajmadison/HMV9303.html

*Jenn-Air has several styles of OTR in white w/ a stainless handle... http://www.jennair.com/catalog/searc...rowave&x=0&y=0

*LG has a white OTR w/a stainless handle... http://us.lge.com/products/model/det..._LMV1630.jhtml

Because the range is a mix of stainless and white, I would like to see you be able to integrate the two with the OTR.

Thanks, folks!

Eva, that does help me to feel more clear about the whole thing. What you mentioned about the visual plane helped me put it into perspective. And, of course, the FX Sheeting is an option! I have already started the infamous series of statements with my DH: "Eva says..." alternated with the phrases that begin with "Well, on IKEAFans, THEY said we should..."

Nicole, thanks for noting the whites won't be "touching". I appreciate the OTR microwaves, and I can see how they might be a bit more appealing visually than the Advantium in all white. However, we are set on the Advantium for the speedcook and warming oven options, so I think we will just get it in white and go for it. Maybe I can wrap the handle in Eva's lovely FX Sheeting, would that help things to tie in more? Whaddya think? (By the way, don't you love the stove? I think it's really funky!)

The white fridge is $300 cheaper than the SS. I think I will go with the white. I love the stainless look, but my magnets will need a new home, I cannot deal with the dents and scratches that can appear on stainless, and for the money the white is a great deal. So noone misunderstands, I am not OPPOSED to white at all; I do love the look of stainless, and have been seriously considering it. All in all, I think I am better off going with white right now, and maybe looking at stainless later on when we need to replace thing. Or becoming really adept at wrapping appliances a la Eva

Emmie - LOL about the Eva said and they said this at IKEAFANS !!
You wouldn't believe how many times those words have come out of my mouth! I have the GE Advantium (the 110 one) and really really like it. I use it whenever I can ... and only use my big oven for things that won't fit in the Advantium.

Tonight, my poor DH is going to get an earful:

"Eva said we could do white OR stainless."
"Nicole pointed out a bunch of other microwaves, isn't she nice? She thought they might match better."
"Doreen said SHE has an Advantium 110 and she just LOVES hers."
"Oh, and guess what? Nicole is getting almost the SAME STOVE as us!"

The poor, poor man, I am driving him demented!

It was kind of surprising that such complete strangers take an active interest... now I know that we're all tko and living vicariously - keeping the remodel alive by following others !!

Thank you, thank you, so honored to know I am part of your dinner conversation! Actually, my DH loves all the wonderful advice gleaned here. Whenever we wonder about doing something he asks, "What do your IKEA buddies say about this?".

dafogle said "we're all tko and living vicariously - keeping the remodel alive by following others !!". So true, but in my case I'm not keeping the remodel alive as I've barely started yet! However, I've learned so much about our project by thinking about others...

Several weeks ago I was talking w/my DDs about giving up something for Lent. DD7 suggested that I give up "my" IKEA website. I told her that is not going to happen! It's such a great community here, and really showcases the power and reach of the Web.

And yes, I love that Titanium range - I feel is is very fresh looking. It is definitely different, but because it is stainless and white, we don't need to worry about it being trendy. Yay us!

Also, I like the idea of trying to incorporate the FX sheeting on the white micro - good idea! I am planning on installing a microwave in an oven cabinet and finishing with a trim kit. The micro that best fits my size and cooking needs is a Sharp and only available in solid white or all stainless. So I'm going with the white, but getting the trim kit in stainless. Two-tone effect accomplished!

Oh! One other idea for you, Emmie... LG makes a full-depth FD fridge in white w/stainless handles that is very good looking. It is not available in CD, however. (Bosch makes a SXS CD fridge in Titanium, but it doesn't get good reviews.)
