Ok folks - this time I didn't steal from Poggenpohl - but from Ikea - Need help with planning your remodel? Want a kitchen planner to review your ideas? This is the happenin' spot!.
Which led to the following plan for my kitchen (thats right - not 5 options - not 4 alternatives - just 1 single plan.
Now - I'm hoping Eva can still find things wrong with this one.. because everytime she has - she's been right! But - in advance Eva - yes - I know there is no trash bin next to the sink.... I wanted one too but will have to go with the garbage under the sink scenario I grew up with... I needed the space for silverware and other stuff... maybe a garbage can will come back in...
Just so you know, Eva is out of town until at least Thursday...but there are many other talented folks here too!

Eva is a whiz AND an angel. But she'll be a bit slower than usual over the next few days. Although she was already suffering withdrawal and checked in on her cell phone this afternoon. Don't think she can do alot of planning en route, though. She'll be touched that you missed her.
If you want MY opinion, which is notoriously bad concerning layout, I like the other one better where the pantries flanked the sink. Is there a reason you can't USE the beam - build out a wall and put the fridge there with a deep pullout pantry next door? Put the stovetop and the double ovens on the other wall.

The hard thing to show in this plan is that the doorway you see goes to the garage. The beam has a large opening on the left and right that face the dining room. If I close off the left and right of the beam - the room iwll only be accessbile from the garage. That would be good.
If I close one side of the beam it really destroys the open floor plan of the house. Right now in the current kitchen there is a "breakfast bar" on the left hand side of the beam. We never use it since putting chairs at it would crowd out the dining room table.
So - the only way to do the small cabs flanking the sink is to have the oven and fridge side by side on the right wall next to the garage door. This might be doable... but Eva thought that it might not work with the double oven being right against the fridge.
Wow. Tommy, I REALLY like this one - it is so dramatic and sleek. Like Susan, I liked the shallow pantry look. However, the "Wall of Kitchen" is terrific. Terrific.
I also like that there seems to be better landing space for your oven and fridge stuff. One question - do you feel there is enough counter space? I'm not sure it would be enough counter space for me, but I guess I like to spread out when I cook.
If I could suggest anything, it would be to get rid of that lone upper cab to the right of the sink. I feel horizontal lines would be better there. I'd like to see open shelves, or if that is too "exposed" for you, consider stacked horizontal cabinets.
Can I tell you again? I love your Wall of Kitchen.
well, you might remember i was the sole dissenter in the adoration of the flanking shallow pantries. i'm loving the new set up LOVING it.
i'll look at it when the kids are asleep (maybe if dh doesn't snag me for a movie first)
Course i might've been more motivated if eva wasn't the only one being searched for... never been much for working in shadows
hi tommy! I am in CA at the mo but you have gotten some great feedback from my talented friends here!
I agree to ditch the upper cab. I am a bit concerned about clearance for h pantry door past the base sink wall cabs, and the oven opening into the doorway. It is hard to see the planson my phone but I will be back Friday AM if u can wait a bit.
Off to see the Mouse tomorow, and Hollywood Thursday Am!
