For those of you that have installed Stat White in your kitchen, I have a few questions.
How long have you had your stat white kitchen?
How has it faired throughout the time it's been installed. Does it stay new looking? I met with my contractor this morning and he gave me a look when he saw IKEA cabinetry and said that it wouldn't stay nice for a long time.
And it's been fine, no problems at all. You're hitting a *very* common problem with folks that *think* they know what IKEA cabs are like. If you have any concerns about the durability you could go with one of the solid wood doorstyles, Tidaholm is probably the toughest there is. It looks NOTHING like STAT white though, and it's quite a bit more expensive.
Honestly though, STAT should last you a long, looooong time. I'm guessing that you contractor would prefer Kraftmaid? I'm not even going to go there, do some searching, you'll find some unfortunate Kraftmaid stories out there .
The other thing to keep in mind is the warranty. Keep *all* your cabinetry reciepts, IKEA cabs have a 10 year warranty... And they are engineered to last a lot longer.

We've had ours in our breakfast room 2 years and it looks just like it was installed yesterday. We work at home and homeschool, so we're all here for 3 meals a day - the cabinets get beaucoup use by 2 kids age 4&5 who have their own 12" pullout pantry for dishes and the like. It's also where our dishwasher and second sink are and all our other dishes are housed, so although it's not the main kitchen, it gets fairly heavy traffic AND, I might add, FULL Southern exposure sun day in and day out. No yellowing, no chipping, no cracking or otherwise deteriorating.
See the pictures in my blog link to the left, under my name/avatar if you're interested.
Bottom line is it's your kitchen, not your contractor's and IKEA cabinets are NOT the same as Mill's Pride and the like, which do tend to show their age quickly. Hope that helps!
i've had mine installed for almost a year. the only wear i have is stuff that was already dinged before i installed (i dropped a door and put it up rather than taking it back with a semi crunched corner)... i have 2 very active toddlers who bang ding and hit everything and my stat have stood the challenge!
i also find them easy to clean, a Mr Clean magic erase wipes it down easily and hits all the grooves.
Thanks everyone, I really appreciate your feedback. It gives me a better feeling about installing Stat White IKEA Cabs in my kitchen. I really am in love with Stat White and with IKEA cabinets in general. This past Saturday I ventured to Ikea for the first time and I couldn't believe how great the cabinetry looks. I know I would get a lot more mileage from Ikea than the regular cabs that would be installed by my contractor. He'll get back to me with price quotes. I'll have to see what he's willing to do and if he's willing to assemble and install them or if I need to hire someone else.
Thanks again!
All the pics that I see in Stat white are beautiful. Thank you.
you might want to get a quote from an ikea installer as well. i have found that some contractors (especially those with already negative views of ikea) can make the process excruciating and then have a self-fulfilling prophecy of it all not working out.
some have had success with their contractors doing everything except the actual cabinet assembly/install
Thanks for giving me the heads on getting estimates from certified Ikea installers. I've e-mailed two of them. I'm waiting to hear back from them at the moment. I'm also waiting to hear the estimate from the contractor.
