So our trip to Ikea yesterday in the Nor'Easter allowed us to look at these things in person.

We're not sure what we're going to do for the house, in terms of door styles, but it did inspire me to seriously think about re-doing my apt kitchen (which I've been wanting to do since I moved) in Linjar Blue!

I came up with a draft plan attachted (apt2), which my friend in LA who is doing a new kitchen worked on (his orig plan is AptScott).

however, he was using the 2006 planner and for some reason his plans don't have prices etc.... and he used a hood which I would love but I need a M/W too.

So i'm trying to recreate it but having some problems. I want a refrigerator to look "built in" meaning surrounded by cabinets like he did,. and my space is really small so i assume i need a 24" width fridge but don't know if they come in counter depth.

anyway, i'm attaching both my paln in progress and his plan as well which i'm trying to incorporate.

I would like a food pantry, and a garbage can storate (pull out base?)..... and I am playing with horizontal cabinets cuz i like the look, but am not wedded to it (i would like a touch of glass fronts to break up the blue).


My draft mission statement is:

I want my kitchen to look sleek, modern and stylish, as if it were in Met Home or in the home of an architect. I also want it to make efficient use of my limited space, and enable me to include a real fridge (not undercounter), electric oven and cooktop (building has no gas), and at least a small dishwasher. I would also like an ice maker (either in the fridge or separate). Since I rarely cook, I am more oncerned about the looks, efficiency, and resale value of my apartment.

Hi Turnip!

You can easily get a 24" range and an 18" dishwasher. Summit makes a 24" wide fridge/freezer with an optional icemaker for an exorbitant price. If you can spare 28", there's a nice Amana with optional icemaker

I think you could get a really nice look using Abstrakt white with aluminum trim in the backsplash and toekick. There are ranges with white and stainless now (Bosch I think) but I don't know if they come in the 24 inch size. A glass top electric range would be useful to increase counter space when you weren't using the range.

I did a plan using all horizontal cabinets, glass on top and solid below. If you want, you could use a contrasting cover panel across the bottom to create a horizontal line. You could mount a vent hood below the horizontals, they don't exactly line up with the range but it is certainly doable.

I would encourage you to check into the new Solar door which is the Linjar door but in white. It's coming out imminently.
