Are 39s okay for small kitchens

I'm planning 39" cabinets almost to the ceiling and I'm wondering if this is too much for my small kitchen. My main reason for the 39s is the limited cabinet space that I have now. The upper shelves will mainly be for storing things I rarely use, but right now, those things are in boxes. Currently, I have soffits that are going to be removed regardless of whether I go with 30s or 39s. The soffits and the cabinets are the same color, so by them blending together, it's almost as if I already have 39 inch cabinets (in space consumption & appearance). However, everything is currently a cream color and since I'm going with the Adel MB cabinets, that will "close" the room in a bit more.

Even with the 30s, I'll be gaining more cabinet space than I currently have, but I really want to maximize that with the 39's. Should I mix the two and maybe make the two glass cabinets and open shelves 30's??

Re: Are 39s okay for small kitchens

Here's the same layout using 2 30" glass and shelves. Which looks better, the 39's in the previous post or these 30s??

Re: Are 39s okay for small kitchens

Go with the 39" uppers - in a small space storage should be your primary concern.

I agree with Torrus... Not only are 39" uppers okay in a small kitchen, they are essential!

Re: Are 39s okay for small kitchens

I agree...closed storage is better than open, especially at the top! If you went with the 30s you would have to do something with that space up there, and it's too valuable to waste on decorative items.

Re: Are 39s okay for small kitchens

i have a small kitchen (not the one in my blog, that's my mom's kitchen) and I used 39s, in the corner i had to use a 30...
if you have the ceiling height--use the 39s

Re: Are 39s okay for small kitchens

We also had a small kitchen (it's bigger now) and used 39" cabinets. I love them and many of our upper cabinet shelves are empty but the possibility to store more stuff is worth it - I say go for 39" too!

Re: Are 39s okay for small kitchens

i'm using 39's in a small kitchen.

i think there needs to be a rule though that anyone with a kitchen larger than mine is not allowed to refer to it as small!
