My Cabinets Are Ordered, BUT......

My Cabinets are ordered, but since they haven't arrived and are not assembled yet I still have time to play.

There are a few things that are bugging me in my design.

#1) I would like some landing space to the left of the fridge.
Am I driving myself crazy by this thought since I can use the counter space by the wine fridge? If my thoughts are founded, should I place a base that is only 12 inches deep beside the fridge (I'm afraid of narrowing the walkway into the kitchen since it is the ONLY way into the kitchen) or should I use the 24" deep one?
I'd like to note that the door that appears in the drawing is the pantry door - pantry is recessed into the wall.

#2) I am also considering moving the microwave of where it's scheduled to be (the cabinet above the D/W) because it's only used occasionally. I would like to have the toaster oven there instead as that is used quite often. I'm toying with the idea of placing the microwave in the recessed pantry similar to the layout of this one below. Pantry will have 2 drawers on the bottom instead though.

I need your ideas/critiques. Thanks so much.

Re: My Cabinets Are Ordered, BUT......

How about just using a Perfekt corner shelf? That might add a nice touch coming in from the outside. Perhaps you could do a blackboard above it or something else that would look nice when entering the kitchen without making the area feel too cramped.

Re: My Cabinets Are Ordered, BUT......

Now...THAT is an idea!!!!

I had placed a 15 inch regular cabinet drawer and the 30" gas range would not make it through the passageway.

Thanks so much for the idea!!

Re: My Cabinets Are Ordered, BUT......

Glad you like it :-) Did you try it in the planner?

Re: My Cabinets Are Ordered, BUT......

Yep, tried it in the planner. I'll admit that it doesn't look great in the planner from the side view, but I think it looks better from the entryway. Also, I believe it would be very useful for keys, mail, cell phone etc, as we walk in the door. What do you think??

Re: My Cabinets Are Ordered, BUT......

You're right, it does look a little weird in the planner. I do think it would look good in real-life though. What if you were to add two or three inches of filler to give it a little more width while still maintaining a good path into the kitchen? I do think it would be an awesome place for keys, cell phones, etc as you mentioned. Its nice to have a specific catch-all section for such items. Plus, the added filler piece against the fridge opens up a multitude of design possibilities, be it function, fun or decor.

Re: My Cabinets Are Ordered, BUT......

Using a few inches of filler could be a possibility. I think I am going to wait until we blue tape the kitchen to see how it feels. But you are right, catch-all space is sounding nicer and nicer.
