Thank you very much for this wonderful resource. I have been searching and trawling for hours and come up with this design. Not a huge amount of space and I have basically left plumbing and oven where they are in the current 60 year old kitchen.
I think my biggest problem was how to add some interest to the wall cabinet run... as there is no window. (There is a wall of windows at the left hand end of the room). However, I would love it if anyone could prevent me from making any big mistakes.

Thanks so much for looking.

-Eichler house – aiming for mid-century modern.
-Floor will be Kahrs engineered Beech Trondheim (I think)
-Deliberately no pantry as we use bulk storage in another room
-Deliberately no hood, not sure how dumb this is
-Both “doors” are just openings in wall leading to other rooms
- The bar will be an island with overhang for stools/chairs
-Roof is angle with lowest point under a beam about 101”
-All cabinets will be birch boxes
-Abstract red cupboards would be custom sized matched Avskit – probably try to cut down 30” doors and purchase frames from Rockler if necessary.
- Intend to build in the fridge.
-Wanted some step up over sink… but 39” Avskit doors felt more flimsy than the 30” and couldn’t work out another way to add that little bit of interest.
-Sink under the short cupboards (red) – want to do “clever” sink pullouts from pollyq and maybe Blum Tandembox sink drawer… but may just do 18” pullouts.
-Trash pullout 15”
-Possible recycling pullout 12” (but really because I had 12” leftover)
Stainless Steel Appliances just FYI
-Bosch SHE66C05UC (Sears sale – still about $1000)
-Electrolux Counter depth E23CS78ESS (Sears sale – too expensive, but we liked the handles)
-Sink: Franke Orca ORX110 like the idea of draining area
-Faucet: Danze D404554S (BuyPlumbing ebay $283 + $10)
-Oven: Single Electrolux Icon E30EW75ESS (AJ Madison) to match fridge
-Warming Drawer: Electrolux Icon E30WD75ESS (AJ Madison)
I have a Mac so I can't access your layout (which is a bummer, since I love pondering them...). However, I did want to suggest you re-think the hood situation. Besides eliminating smoke and odors (which end up being absorbed by the fabrics in your home) exhaust fans pull out the moisture created by cooking. All in all, it helps keep you home a healthy environment.
They come in all sizes and profiles, so if you were not planning on one because you didn't want to sacrifice the space it shouldn't be a problem. You can vent straight back (if on an outside wall) and still have cabinet space above. If you have to vent up through a cabinet, you still should be able to use about 60% of the cab.
I have a few suggestions. First, I agree with Nicole that you want some sort of fan/exhaust system if possible. A wall or island mount hood does not require a cabinet for installation.
I would swap the drawer unit to the left of the sink for a 3-drawer to have continuity of line with the drawers.
I would make both the 12 and 15 to the left of the sink pullouts, again, continuity. You could still have an internal top drawer on the 15, but there is no 12" drawer front.
Not sure why you have a cover panel between sink and
DW
?
You will only need the 80" high cover panel for the oven cab, and the fridge also probably. I am not crazy about the red cab over the fridge. I like the red cab over the sink. I think you have room for 39" cabinets on the wall if you want to go taller.
I think you would probably find the cooktop would be better placed in the middle of the three 36" units, that gives you more room on both sides. I see that you have a post there, though, so maybe you have structural constraints.
Here's the .fpf file with those changes made so you can see how it looks.

DW can mean Dear or Darling Wife (or substitute your expletive), or alternatively DishWasher. Take your clues from the context.
Thank you so much for your improvements and taking the trouble to make a plan. I now see that continuity of the base cabinet lines looks better and also now know I don't need a cover panel between the cabinets and
DW
.
I originally only made those doors red to remind me that I have to custom build those 24" doors in matching Avskit... but since you like the red above the sink - I might keep it!
I am still struggling to decide between the 39" and 36" Avskit doors as I like the idea of taller cabinets... but the 39" x 15" look a bit too skinny to me. I am amazed that there can be so many such tortuous decisions in such a simple kitchen. However, after about 200 hours... 20 revisions and 6 trips to Ikea - just to look and touch (luckily I am close) I am almost able to order
Thanks also to Nicole for the hood wisdom... we have been living with just an exhaust fan in the ceiling... and I like the openness over the peninsula... I will look at peninsula hoods, but I think I can defer this decision if I include the switch and wiring for the current exhaust fan.
Thanks again,
Kathryn

They aren't as efficient as overhead fans, but they are way better than nothing. They do take up some space in the back of your cabinet, but I have heard some models (most? all?) are slim enough to fit behind drawers. Shop around!
It was the 39" height with the 30" width, that I thought looked a bit too tall and skinny.... but you are right... the extra storage in this small space may be very valuable.
Your idea of a telescope downdraft was so helpful. The folks in the kitchen section at IKEA have no solution for me -- I have 30 inch cabinet, want to get the IKEA Mumsig oven, and want a retracting or hidden downdraft. I am going for European look of red abstract, glass countertops, etc. Finally the manager said I might have 2 inches behind the oven and 5 inches on top of the oven for a unit, but he couldn't find one (and also said he had no experience with any of this. Do you think a 600 CFM Exhaust Rating | Internal Power System | 30 in. Width | Integrated Downdraft Vent would work??
Help, anyone!! I have had no stove or cooktop for 2 months trying to solve this problem. Georgia
