I have been attempting to design my Ikea kitchen with the planner for weeks now.
I've been to Ikea, have the catalog (ate the meatballs...)
It seems easy enough but I've come to the point where I need to ask for some help.
I'm stuck on the planner not allowing me to add wall cabinets the way I want and
on the corner cabinet. I have seen that corner inside unit mentioned on the boards here but am not sure what Ikea cabinet it is compatible with.
I know I want Nexus birch and the long silver cylindrical handles.
Finding Eva's wonderful kitchen spurred me on. Our bisque appliances are new and a fridge will be added, as well as a microhood.
We are doing a kitchen update to our townhouse, pretty simple, right? Just remove cabinets and put new ones in their place. I had hoped to add a pullout trash, there is a space under counter where
trash compactor used to be. Also we love the pullout pantry. There is not enough space next to the fridge
for one *sigh* so am thinking of putting next to a much needed large cabinet at other end of kitchen.
No other placement for this even though I am not crazy about the tunnel effect it adds to doorway.
By orienting the way I did I hoped to preserve some area for a small table and keep the look of a long kitchen
but that's not set in stone.
We are stuck with 4" soffits in cabinet area, can't face any ripping apart and really trying to do this on a budget.
I am doing the designing on my own and will probably have to have Ikea come and measure
so I don't make terrible errors. We are having someone install the cabinets, countertop and new floor.
Bear with me: I'm trying to upload pics (messy kitchen), Ikea planner screenshot and my diagram.
Suggestions much appreciated!
OK, here's a new idea for you. I tried to keep the long look going, and instead of giving you a table and chairs for seating I put a bar counter in front of the window. That gives you a lot more space for cabinetry.
And just for kicks I gave you THREE (count 'em, THREE LOL) high pullout pantries. You could exchange the ones in front of the window for a 30" drawer unit if you don't want the height, but I thought it separated the eating area nicely if you want a little more intimate setting there.
The wall cabinets around the range should fit everything you need for cooking, and I am envisioning the area on the right hand wall for baking, etc. The cleanup zone has a 36 inch sink base which should allow you to put an inside-the-cabinet pullout for trash rather than a separate cabinet.
You have additional storage under the bar area for less-frequently used stuff, and the blind corner cab and wall cabs in that area can be used for a snack prep/coffee area.
Here are more ideas.Â* If this were my kitchen, I would do anything I could to get that refrigerator out of the spot between the door and the sink. I tried putting it on the bathroom wall, but found that it violated the rule that says that none of the main three centers should be more than 9 feet away from any other. But how about the corner to the right of the range? If you use a 30" refrigerator, put a 15 inch base next to it, then the range, then the lazy susan corner cab, it would all fit with a couple of extra inches of room that you would want on the right side of the fridge next to the wall so it doesn't bang.Your sink would stay where it is but put the dishwasher to its left, a stack of drawers to the left of that for your silverware, and a 30" x 30" wall cab above that for your plates. Then, on the bathroom wall where you have a couple of tall cabs - turn the cabs to face into the room and put them along the entire length of the wall - just march 'em right down.I'll send the pic in a minute
