Still waiting for DH to bring me precise measurements of the kitchen in the house we just bought (closed yesterday!) before I post any designs for feedback. But I'm playing with some different layout options in the meantime.
If you had to choose between an advantium (microwave plus speedcooker) over the range and an advantium under the counter, which would you choose and why?
Over the range means not so great ventilation and positioned too high for access by children (for microwaving snacks) and maybe a bit of a stretch for me with anything heavy--like a lasagne tray.
Under the counter would take up storage space. . . . arguably a bit low, but I'm not sure that's a big deal as it would be no lower than the oven beneath the range. And I think the advantium door actually opens down like a regular oven door rather than side ways like a microwave. . . . (I've heard that this installation voids the warranty on an advantium. I've also heard that GE has provided coverage anyway. Not worried about it either way.)
I have heard there is a HUGE difference in the performance of the 220V advantium as opposed to the 110...that might make a significant impact on your decision.
I think the 120 is 4x faster than a regular oven and the 240 is 8x faster? But the 120 has a convention oven mode, which the 240 lacks. And, I have heard that the 120 is bigger inside so more suited to roasting a brisket or whole chickens, etc. . . .
I haven't completely decided yet, but I'm leaning towards the 120. Regardless they both come in OTR and built-in so I could put either one in either spot.
I am not familiar with the Advantium but as far as location is concerned, I would vote for anything but over the range. Our current kitchen has an OTR microwave and we actually have another micro on the counter so the kids can use it, that is a waste of space. The ability to vent cooking steam/grease/odors outdoors is a big deal for me too. I've never had that and think about it every time I clean grease off the top of the fridge way over on the other side of the kitchen, where else is it going?
My preference is to NOT have the micro over the range. I had it in the past and promised myself never to do it again. Aside from the issue of making me extremely nervous when removing hot contents from the microwave due to it being so high, I found that the microwave got really hot when I had a few burners on. It was an obstruction all the time. This time I plan on placing it in the pantry.
