Thinking of mixing styles

I really like the Lidjar Blue and I was thinking of mixing it with some Maple slab cabinets I already have (from Scherrs). I put together a mock-up with some software. The two wall cabinets that look white are going to be white glass with aluminum framed doors. I really like the Blue, do you think the maple is compatible? I'm so not a decorator. Also, the walls are white and I was thinking of a dark charcoal colored floor and a white Silestone counter. There will also be a stainless hood over the range. (The software also stretches the plan, it's really about 13 feet long.)

I'm doing my kitchen in phases (which may not be a good idea, too much time to think). I already have the maple "pantry" wall. The next phase will be to take down all the upper cabinets and install the two wall cabinets and the SS hood. The final phase will be the floor and base cabinets.

Ah...I saw your post on GWeb about this, and voted for charcoal cabinets with the maple!

Re: Thinking of mixing styles

I also love the blue! It is gorgeous. Is the counter on the maple side already done? Will it be different?

What I think you'll need is some element that will tie it all together. Maybe you backsplash could have some elements of both the blue and the gold/tan of the birch. Have you considered a mosaic tile backsplash? You can blend your own at a few of the sites. I've used MosaicTileMarket.com-Your Online Tile Showroom of modern glass & steel tile.. My sister got her backsplash from them and so I can say how great they were to deal with. They also have great blends pre-made that are a bit cheaper than a custom.

Go to source here at ikeafans and there are other great tile places that have cool irredescent and metallic tiles. I think the backsplash could be the element of the kitchen design that in your case will make the whole thing work and come together. Some great window fabric would also help.

I think you should trust your instincts and if you love the blue, go for it.

Re: Thinking of mixing styles

Just remember that you don't put handles on Linjär Blue doors. They have built in aluminum handles like this (click for larger):

Re: Thinking of mixing styles

ooooo - look at that great mosaic backsplash and those yellow walls. Have you considered yellow to go with the blue. It would have to be the right shade so it won't look like an ad for Ikea Sweden !

Here are some ready made blends from www.susanjablonmosaics.com
They all have the bright blue with grays and the birch colour:

I really just put that backsplash together without thinking about it too much, using a custom blend from the hakatai website. I haven't really picked the wall colors yet, the yellow is just what's there now. I am trying to get the whole design figured out first, and hopefully once construction starts I will have time to worry about colors and backplash.

If you have SketchUp, here's a link to my current model.

Nice job on the Sketch Up model. I'm taking a quick intense Sketch Up lesson in our AutoCAD class. Are you just self-taught?

Love those tiles now I get a better look. That is going to one fabulous kitchen with that great blue for cabinetry! Please keep us up to date.
