Okay, I hope I can explain this the right way....

My original plan was to completely knock down the wall between the living room and the dining room and create a peninsula for seating between the two. But, of course, we couldn’t knock the wall all the way down....

So, the plans changed. Now I have a 6 foot opening between the two rooms. There is a wall of base and wall cabinets along the wall side that go about 1-2 ft past the kitchen. I want to have the counter extend about 12 inches out past the counter both ways (out the side and front) making an "L" at the end.

I want to make sure I can open the drawer, and the extension clears the cabinet. I know I can use L brackets on the side of the cabinet. How would I keep the rest of it up?

Does anyone have any ideas, suggestions or pictures of something similar??

If the underside of the counter is flat, there will be plenty of room for door/drawer clearance. I think you're asking if you need brackets on all sides to support the overhang. My guess is not, if you screw the counter to the cabinets well. Most materials (in our case, the thickest Ikea butcherblock) seem to tolerate a 12" extension. I don't know whether the corner needs a bracket though - that's the biggest expanse of overhang, so it could be a problem. Maybe someone else will have experience with that.

I don't think you will be able to use drawers (at least, the ones at the top) with that deep of an overhang. I have wall cabinets under my overhang, and it is not the most convenient storage, but is good for bulk items and seasonal stuff. I have paper towels, napkins and toilet paper in one, and travel cups and snowcone equipment in the other. Drawers would be impossible to use and I have a 10.5 inch overhang.
